ROLE: Junior Systems Engineer (Hardware)

About role:

We are seeking engineers, technicians, and a machinist to help us complete construction of, and demonstrate, the world’s most energy efficient humanoid robot. RangerMAX was brought to Plaksha University, in Chandigarh (Mohali) by Professor Andy Ruina

(ruina.org). The project is initially for 18 months and, with funding will go for at least

5 years. Eventually, the lab plans to expand to a space robotics center, developing robots for exploration of the moon and mars. The team will only be about 9 people, each with high level skills in at least one area, and each with abilities and energy to work across job-description boundaries. Testing.

An entry-level engineering role for a recent graduate who is positive with their hands and has built/wants to build robots for a living. This is a hardware-focused position: you will assemble, wire, solder, test, repair, and modify robot hardware across both electrical and mechanical domains. You will learn the systems well enough to eventually own subsystem integration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Assemble and integrate mechanical and electrical subsystems: actuator modules, sensor

· boards, cable harnesses, structural components.

· Solder, crimp, and rework electronic assemblies (SMD and through-hole).

· Fabricate cable harnesses and wiring looms to specification.





· Perform board-level testing and bring-up under the guidance of senior engineers: power-on checks, basic functional tests, continuity and isolation checks.

· Assist with mechanical assembly: fastener installation, alignment, carbon fiber and aluminum structural work.

· Maintain lab equipment, inventory, and component storage.

· Document assembly procedures, test results, and known issues.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:

· B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field. Fresh graduates welcome

· Personal projects involving electronics and/or mechanical fabrication.

· Experience with any CAD tool (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD).

· Experience with any PCB design tool (KiCad, Altium, EasyEDA).

SKILLS:

· Basic understanding of electronic circuits (voltage, current, resistance, capacitance—not just theory).

· Basic understanding of mechanical assembly (torque specs, thread types, fits and tolerances).

· Willingness to learn SMD rework, oscilloscope usage, and more advanced test and measurement techniques.

· Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics (does not need to create them from scratch).

· Careful, methodical work habits. Robots have hundreds of connections; one wrong wire can be expensive.

· Familiarity with 3D printing, laser cutting, or CNC operation.
