Role Description

Python Developer – ECU Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) Test Automation

Required Technical Skill Set:

- Python 3; Robot Framework; reusable Python test libraries and keywords
- SIL and virtual ECU test execution
- AutoVal/AVPythonLib and CommonTools interfaces
- CAN/LIN/Ethernet/UDS/XCP test automation
- Test reporting, log analysis, Git, Jenkins and CI/CD

Desired Competencies

Must-Have:

- Strong Python programming and software test-automation mindset
- Ability to design modular, reusable and maintainable test libraries/keywords
- Working understanding of ECU, virtual ECU, SIL and closed-loop simulation concepts
- Analytical debugging of script, model, configuration, communication and controller failures
- Transparent technical documentation and collaboration with software, controls, calibration and validation teams

Skill Set 1:

- Python 3 development: functions, classes/OOP, modules/packages, exceptions, file handling, JSON/XML/CSV processing, logging and command-line execution
- Python environment and dependency management using virtual environments, pip and requirements files
- Development of custom Python libraries, test utilities and Robot Framework keywords with clean interfaces and reusable abstractions
- Unit testing of automation code using pytest or equivalent, with readable assertions and failure diagnostics

Skill Set 2:

- Robot Framework keyword-driven test scripting, including suites, resources, libraries, setup/teardown, tags and execution from CLI/IDE
- SIL/virtual ECU test automation or equivalent simulation environments, plant/model interfaces and controller builds
- Automotive communication and diagnostics test scripting: CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet, UDS and XCP; familiarity with J2534 is beneficial
- Exposure to AVPythonLib, CommonTools standard test libraries, SIL interfaces and signal/calibration access through INCA or MDA





Skill Set 3:

- Create and maintain smoke, functional, integration and regression test suites for controller software
- Execute tests locally and through Jenkins/CI pipelines; manage artifacts, logs, reports and test evidence
- Parse execution logs and traces, compare actual versus expected behavior, and support root-cause isolation
- Use Git-based workflows, code review and documentation practices in an Agile/Scrum environment

Good to Have:

- C/C++ or Embedded C, AUTOSAR and embedded software fundamentals
- MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE ControlDesk, VEOS, INCA/MDA, CANoe or Vehicle Spy
- A2L/ASAP2, ARXML/ODX, calibration concepts, virtual CAN/LIN buses and model-based testing
- Linux/Windows scripting, Jenkins pipeline troubleshooting, ASPICE SWE.5/SWE.6 and ISO 26262 awareness

Responsibilities

- Develop, maintain and debug reusable Python scripts, test utilities and Robot Framework/Autobot keywords for ECU SIL controller testing
- Configure and execute SIL/virtual ECU test environments, or equivalent simulation tools, controller builds, plant models and test setup/teardown
- Translate software requirements, behavioral test specifications and feature scenarios into deterministic test cases with stimuli, preconditions, expected results and clear pass/fail criteria
- Implement test interfaces for ECU signals, virtual buses and diagnostics using CAN/CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet, UDS and XCP
- Run smoke, functional, integration and regression suites locally and in Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, managing Python environments, dependencies and reproducible execution
- Capture and analyze execution logs, HTML/XML reports, traces and calibration/test data; perform failure triage across script, model, configuration, communication and controller software causes
- Apply software engineering practices to automation assets: modular design, code reviews, unit tests for custom libraries, documentation, version control and quality gates
- Collaborate with software teams, SWIL/SIL, controls, calibration and validation teams to resolve issues, improve test coverage and support continuous enhancement of the SIL automation framework
