Role Overview

Roughly 60% leadership and delivery, 40% technical depth (design reviews, architecture, selective code review).

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

- Lead, coach and grow a team of 1015 Java engineers across experience levels.

- Run regular 1:1s, set transparent goals, and deliver honest, timely performance feedback.

- Own hiring for the team: screening, interviewing, closing candidates, and onboarding.

- Build career development plans and identify growth paths, including promotion cases.

- Foster a culture of psychological safety, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Delivery & Execution

- Own end-to-end delivery of the team's roadmap scoping, planning, estimation and release.

- Partner with Product, Design, QA and DevOps to translate business goals into technical plans.

- Track and improve delivery health: cycle time, escaped defects, sprint predictability.

- Manage risks and dependencies proactively; escalate early with options, not just problems.

- Drive Agile/Scrum ceremonies and continuously refine the team's engineering process.

Technical Stewardship

- Guide architecture and design decisions for Java/Spring Boot microservices at scale.

- Uphold engineering standards: code quality, test coverage, CI/CD, observability, security.

- Participate in design and code reviews; resolve deep technical disagreements.

- Own technical debt strategy and balance it against feature delivery.

- Ensure production readiness — on-call health,



incident response, and blameless postmortems.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

- 13+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years directly managing engineering teams.

- Deep hands-on background in Java (8/11/17/21+), Spring Boot, and the JVM ecosystem.

- Strong grounding in microservices architecture, RESTful API design and distributed systems.

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis).

- Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and high-throughput systems.

- Exposure to performance tuning, JVM profiling and large-scale system migrations.

- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), Docker and Kubernetes.

- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern observability tooling.

- Proven track record of shipping complex projects on time in a cross-functional setting.

- Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
