Job Title: Product Owner – Corporate & Individual US Taxation
Role/Job Summary
We are looking for a highly experienced Product Owner with 12+ years of overall experience to own the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for our Corporate & Individual US Taxation product suite. The role requires deep expertise in US federal and state tax compliance (individual and corporate/business tax) combined with strong Agile product ownership skills, to translate evolving IRS and state regulations, filing requirements, and tax-season deadlines into scalable, industry-leading tax products that CPA firms, businesses, and individual taxpayers rely on.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Corporate & Individual US Taxation product suite, aligned to IRS/state regulatory changes and business goals.
- Collaborate with tax subject matter experts, CPAs/EAs, compliance, legal, and business stakeholders to translate US federal and state tax regulations (individual, corporate, and partnership) into product features.
- Track IRS regulatory updates, annual tax law changes, state-specific tax rules, and filing form changes (Forms1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, W-2, 1099, etc.) and ensuretimelyreflection in the product.
- Own, create, andmaintaina well-groomed product backlog of epics, features, and user stories for corporate and individual US tax modules.
- Prioritize the backlog based on business value, IRS/state filing deadlines, tax-season readiness, and customer impact.
- Lead scrum teams by defining sprint goals, reviewing sprint outcomes, and ensuringtimelydelivery of tax product releases well ahead of tax season and statutory deadlines.
- Partner with engineering, QA, and compliance teams tovalidatethe accuracy of tax calculations, forms, and e-filing (IRS Modernized e-File/MeF, state e-file) before release.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT)
with tax practitioners/CPAs and ensure production readiness of new tax rules, forms, and calculation logic each tax year.
- Act as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders, tax experts, customers, and the technology/development team.
- Ensure all product featurescomply withIRS regulations, data privacy/security standards (e.g., IRS Publication 4557 safeguards), and audit requirements.
- Represent the product externally where needed (webinars, firm communications, customer advisory input) and track competitive/market developments in the tax technology space.
Must-Have Skills:
- 12+ years of overall experience, includingsignificant experienceas a Product Owner/Product Manager/Business Analyst in a US tax, fintech, or financial compliance product environment.
- Strong working knowledge of US Corporate and Individual Taxation – federal and state individual tax (Form 1040 and schedules), corporate/business tax (Forms 1120, 1120-S, 1065), payroll/information reporting (W-2, 1099), and IRS e-filing (MeF) processes.
- In-depth knowledge of Agile/Scrum processes and principles, including backlog management, sprint ceremonies, and release planning.
- Proven ability to translate complex US tax regulations and IRS guidance into clear, actionable product requirements.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills, with the ability tointerface withsenior stakeholders, CPAs/tax experts, and technical teams.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail given the compliance-critical nature of tax products.
- Ability to manage conflicting stakeholder needs and prioritize based on regulatory deadlines and business impact, particularly around peak tax season.
- Hands-on experience with product management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps (ADO), Confluence, Miro, or similar.
Good-to-Have Skills:
- CPA, EA (Enrolled Agent), CTC, or equivalent US taxcredential.
- Scrum/SAFe/CSPO certification.
- Prior experience with US tax engines/platforms such as Thomson Reuters (ONESOURCE,GoSystem, UltraTax CS), Wolters Kluwer (CCH Axcess, CCH ProSystemfx), Intuit (Lacerte,ProSeries, TurboTax), Drake Software, or Vertex.
- Experience with IRS Modernized e-File (MeF) schema, XML-based filing standards, and state e-file programs.
- Exposure to AI/ML-driven tax automation or RPA in tax return preparation/review.
- Experience working in a Big 4/national CPA firm, tax technology vendor, or financial services organization.
- Master's in Taxation, JD, or MBA (Finance) is a plus.
Experience Required:
12+ Years, with substantial experience specifically in Corporate and/or Individual US Taxation product ownership, tax technology, or financial compliance products.
Any Other Significant Notes
- Given the US tax domain focus, candidates should have strong familiarity with the US tax calendar and be available for extended hours/on-call support during peak filing seasons (Jan–Apr and the Sep–Oct extension window).
- Role mayrequireoverlap with US time zones for stakeholder collaboration, depending on team location.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skillsrequiredfor client/stakeholder-facing engagement.
- CPA/EA certification or equivalent US tax credential preferred; Agile/Scrum certification (CSPO,SAFe) is an added advantage.
- Location, shift timings, and travel requirements to be confirmed by the hiring manager based on project/client needs.
