Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with 5+ years of hands-on experience in managing, maintaining, and optimizing PostgreSQL databases in production environments. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, high availability, backup and recovery, database migrations/upgrades, and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL database servers.
Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks.
Perform database tuning, query optimization, and index management.
Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Manage database security, user roles, permissions, and access controls.
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery using PostgreSQL replication and HA solutions.
Troubleshoot production database issues and perform root cause analysis.
Support application and development teams with database design and optimization recommendations.
Automate routine database administration tasks using Shell/Python scripting.
Perform database migrations and version upgrades with minimal downtime.
Monitor database health, storage utilization, and capacity planning.
Create and maintain database documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with application teams, infrastructure teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
Participate in production support activities and critical incident management.
Required Skills
5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL Database Administration experience.
Solid experience with PostgreSQL architecture, replication, partitioning, indexing, and performance tuning.
Experience with PostgreSQL HA technologies such as Patroni, repmgr, and PgBouncer .
Strong knowledge of VACUUM, Autovacuum tuning, table bloat management, and index bloat management .
Ability to perform performance troubleshooting using pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and wait event analysis .
Experience with backup and recovery solutions such as pg_dump, pg_restore, pgBackRest, or Barman .
Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL programming skills.
Hands-on experience in PostgreSQL replication, failover, and disaster recovery setups.
Ability to perform database migration and version upgrades from older PostgreSQL versions to newer versions.
Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills for production databases.
Experience working on Linux/Unix environments.
Knowledge of Shell scripting, Bash, or Python scripting.
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana,
pgAdmin, Nagios, or Zabbix .
Strong understanding of database security best practices.
Soft Skills
Ability to independently handle calls and discussions with multiple stakeholders with minimal supervision.
Strong communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications
