Role & responsibilities
We are looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to own end-to-end payroll operations for a 500+ employee organisation spread across multiple locations and warehouses.
This role is ideal for someone who has worked in a quick-paced startup or high-growth environment and is comfortable managing payroll complexity across different employee categories, locations, statutory requirements, and warehouse setups.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end payroll process for 500+ employees across multiple locations
and warehouses.
- Manage monthly payroll inputs including attendance, leave, incentives, variable pay,
deductions, reimbursements, new hires, exits and salary revisions.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing with strong controls and
reconciliation mechanisms.
- Manage payroll-related statutory compliance including PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, TDS and
other applicable regulations.
- Handle payroll for employees across different locations, states and warehouse
setups.
- Work closely with HR, Finance, Business and Operations teams to ensure timely
closure of payroll inputs.
- Manage full & final settlements, payroll adjustments and exit-related payments.
- Drive payroll audits, reconciliations and maintain accurate payroll records.
- Identify gaps in payroll processes and implement automation, controls and
process improvements.
- Coordinate with payroll vendors / consultants, where applicable, and ensure
service-level adherence.
- Prepare payroll reports, MIS and analytics for HR and Finance leadership.
- Ensure employee payroll queries are resolved accurately and within defined
timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee compensation and payroll
data.
- Stay updated on changes in labour laws, statutory regulations and payroll
compliance requirements across applicable states.
What We're Looking For
- 710 years of experience in payroll, preferably in a startup, high-growth or large
distributed organisation.
- Experience managing payroll for 500+ employees is strongly preferred.
- Strong experience handling multi-location and multi-state payroll.
- Exposure to warehouse / frontline / blue-collar workforce payroll will be an
advantage.
- Robust understanding of Indian payroll and statutory compliances.
- Experience working closely with Finance and HR teams.
- Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills and comfort working with large datasets.
- Experience with payroll/HRMS platforms and payroll automation tools.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage tight monthly payroll
timelines
