The Qurious labs at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore invites applications for a Junior Research Fellow position. The selected candidate will contribute to research in quantum communication, quantum cryptography, quantum information processing, quantum optics, and related quantum technologies.
The fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator and group members on theoretical, computational, and/or experimental research projects. Depending on project requirements and the candidate’s background, the work may involve quantum protocol design and security analysis, simulation of quantum systems and networks, photonic quantum experiments, data analysis, software development, and preparation of research publications and technical reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and contribute to identifying research problems in quantum information and quantum technologies.
- Develop, simulate, and analyse quantum communication, cryptography, networking, sensing, or optimization protocols.
- Assist in the design, setup, characterization, and operation of quantum-optics or photonics experiments, where applicable.
- Develop and maintain computational tools, simulations, experimental records, and research documentation.
- Analyse results, prepare figures and presentations, and contribute to manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Participate actively in group meetings, seminars, collaborative discussions, and project reporting activities.
- Assist with mentoring student projects and supporting laboratory or research-group activities when needed.
Essential qualifications
- Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline.
- Robust academic background and genuine interest in quantum information science and technology.
- Familiarity with at least one relevant area: quantum mechanics, quantum optics, quantum computing, quantum communication, cryptography, photonics, or scientific computing.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, Julia, C/C++, or a comparable language.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desirable qualifications
- Experience with Qiskit, PennyLane, QuTiP, Cirq, NetSquid, or related quantum-software frameworks.
- Exposure to quantum cryptography, post-quantum cryptography, quantum networks, quantum algorithms, or quantum machine learning.
- Experimental experience in optics/photonics, lasers, single-photon detectors, optical alignment, FPGA/control electronics, or data-acquisition systems.
- Prior research project, thesis, internship, publication, preprint, or conference presentation in a relevant area.
- Familiarity with LaTeX, Git/GitHub, scientific writing, and reproducible computational workflows.
AppointmentThis is a full-time, on-site research position at IIT Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. The initial appointment and fellowship will be governed by the applicable IIT Indore and/or sponsoring-agency rules, with possible extension based on performance and project requirements.

Remuneration
- The Junior Research Fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship of INR 37,000 per month plus House Rent Allowance (HRA), as applicable and in accordance with the funding-agency and IIT Indore norms.
