Overview A fast-growing digital payments and financial technology organization is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join its core platform engineering team. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining large-scale payment systems that support millions of users and high transaction volumes.

The successful candidate will work on mission-critical financial applications, contribute to system architecture decisions, and help drive technical excellence across the engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development

- Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and batch processing systems.
- Build highly available and scalable payment processing platforms.
- Develop new product features while ensuring system reliability and performance.
- Participate in system architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
- Optimize applications for throughput, latency, and operational efficiency.

System Design
- Create technical specifications and detailed system designs.
- Design database schemas and data processing workflows.
- Improve platform scalability and resiliency.
- Implement secure and reliable integration patterns between internal and external systems.
- Support modernization initiatives and microservices adoption.

Operational Excellence
- Monitor production systems and resolve operational issues.
- Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and system failures.
- Improve observability through logging, metrics, and monitoring.




- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis activities.
- Continuously enhance development and deployment processes.

Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers.
- Conduct code reviews and architectural reviews.
- Establish engineering best practices and development standards.
- Support knowledge sharing and technical training initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering teams.

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of skilled software development experience using Java .
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing enterprise-scale backend systems.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience working with relational databases and high-volume data processing.
- Knowledge of Linux-based production environments.
- Familiarity with API design and backend service development.
- Experience collaborating within Agile development environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English in professional settings.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building financial services, payment platforms, or fintech products.
- Experience supporting business-critical production systems.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native development.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience designing systems that handle large transaction volumes.
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and workflow orchestration.
- Knowledge of security, compliance, and reliability requirements in financial environments.
- Conversational Japanese language ability is advantageous but not required.
