Job Summary
Design, develop (code), test, and debug applications on HD Supplys B2B eCommerce platform. Provide ready-to-serve experience and development subject-matter expertise across the HCL Commerce / WebSphere Commerce (WCS) v8 storefront and the adjacent Next.js and Spring Boot surfaces that now share customer traffic with it. Maintain, enhance, and deliver solutions for commerce applications.
Assist team members and project leads in day-to-day project work during dual-run (legacy commerce engine + modern storefront).
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
- Design and develop application components in an Agile environment WCS storefront and business logic, Java/Spring Boot services, and Next.js / React storefront work as assigned.
- Participate in gathering requirements, documenting and designing HCL Commerce / WCS functionality and related enhancements. Support application integration testing, integration development, data conversion, and cut-over activities.
- Design, develop, and implement multi-tier commerce applications (web and backend) to support B2B business requirements, including punchout and other customer purchasing-system channels where those flows still run on Commerce.
- Create and review designs; identify re-usability, performance issues, and best practices for Commerce, REST/SOAP services, and Java.
- Support the full life cycle of storefront pages, store data, store business logic, customization of WebSphere / HCL Commerce tools, and integration with back-end systems (including services that sit in front of or beside Commerce).
- Implement Java-based solutions for public-facing B2B websites based on business requirements; extend or consume Spring Boot APIs that wrap or replace Commerce capabilities as pages move off WCS.
- Contribute to Next.js / React storefront work (pages, data fetching, integration with Commerce or microservice APIs) so migrated and unmigrated journeys stay consistent.
- Perform unit testing before moving code/configuration to QA. Research defects and solve for root cause across WCS, Spring Boot, and Next.js as the defect spans those layers.
- Identify key barriers and core problems; apply problem-solving skills to complex situations. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a dual-run architecture (legacy Commerce runtime plus modern storefront).
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- 5+ years expertise in HCL Commerce and/or IBM WebSphere Commerce (WCS) 8.x — store customization, business logic, tools, catalog/order/user flows, and integration with back-end systems. v8 experience is the hiring bar; later Commerce versions are a plus, not a substitute.
- 5+ years Java development and OOD skills on large IT systems (J2EE on WebSphere Application Server strongly preferred).
- 3+ years Spring / Spring MVC; hands-on Spring Boot (REST APIs, service integration) required — not “Spring on a rsum only.”
- 5+ years web services (REST and SOAP).
- 5+ years source control (Git required; SVN/CVS acceptable as prior experience).
- 3+ years JavaScript, HTML, CSS; Next.js and React experience required (production storefront or equivalent, not tutorials-only). TypeScript preferred.
- Experience with Agile delivery using Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket/Git, Confluence).
- Strong communication skills; proven team player.
Preferred
- B2B commerce, punchout, and/or mobile commerce business models.
- Headless or composable commerce patterns (API-first storefront consuming Commerce or BFF/microservices). MuleSoft or similar iPaaS is a plus, not required.
- Additional JS frameworks (Angular, Vue) as secondary experience.
- Exposure to search (Solr), session/page cache (Redis or similar), and CMS-driven storefronts (e.g. Optimizely or equivalent) alongside a commerce engine.
- Experience working Preview vs Runtime (authoring/preview vs customer-facing) Commerce stacks without treating them as the same setting.
Work Time: 2-11 PM Work Mode: WFO / Client Office Sholinganallur
