Position Title: Global Payroll Manager
Work Arrangement: Remote - India
About The Role As our company experiences rapid global expansion, we are restructuring our payroll function to build a world-class financial control environment. Moving out of HR and into Finance, the payroll engine requires an expert leader to design, implement, and run our end-to-end global payroll operations.
Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Global Payroll Manager will own global payroll strategy, operational execution, data integrity, and internal controls across all operating jurisdictions (including the Philippines, Colombia, India, and Australia as well as future expansion regions).
You will serve as the bridge between HR (master data owners) and the accounting & finance team who will calculate and process payroll. Additionally, you will coordinate with outsource 3rd-party Payroll/Treasury providers in overseas locations who will support our payroll operations as we grow our regional presence in these locations. This role demands a hands-on payroll subject matter expert who can establish rigorous financial controls while working cross- functionally to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant pay execution worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Architecture, Data Governance, and Internal Controls
- End-to-End Process Redesign: Architect and document a standardized global payroll workflow, shifting calculations and controls from HR into Finance while maintaining seamless integration with HR systems. Standardise intake formats and build validation checks between internal HR systems, timekeeping tools, and other systems..
- Control Framework Implementation: Build and enforce rigorous pre- and post-payroll audit controls, segregation of duties (SoD), variance approvals, and dual-authorization disbursements.
- Compliance & Audit: Partner with internal teams and external consultants and auditors to ensure full compliance with multi-country labor laws, statutory tax withholdings, local social security, and payroll reporting requirements.
- Payroll Calendar & SLA: Establish strict global payroll calendars, input cutoffs, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with HR, Operations, and regional contacts.
- Global Payroll Operations & Vendor Management
- Multi-Country Execution: Oversee and execute multi-region payroll for diverse
employment models (FTE, contractors, localized entities, and EOR/Employer of Record structures) across Australia, Colombia, India, the Philippines, and other international jurisdictions.
- 3rd-Party Consultant Management: Act as the primary operational liaison with
outsourced overseas Payroll, Tax, and Treasury consultants to ensure accurate local filings, tax remittances, and statutory reporting.
- System Integrations & HRIS Coordination: Collaborate closely with HR to define data ownership, audit HRIS inputs (onboarding, compensation, benefits, terminations), and optimize automated data feeds between HRIS, timekeeping, and payroll engines.
- Financial Reporting & Treasury Integration
- General Ledger & Reconciliations: Ensure all payroll runs generate timely, accurate GL journal entries and labor cost allocations. Reconcile all payroll clearing accounts, tax liabilities, and benefit accounts in coordination with Finance.
- Treasury & Funding Coordination: Partner with Treasury and local finance controllers to forecast payroll cash requirements across foreign currency accounts and execute funding in alignment with local bank schedules.
- Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Alignment
- HR Partnership: Serve as the core Finance partner to HR, establishing transparent SLA boundaries for master data cutoffs, offboarding payments, variable pay inputs, and error- resolution protocols.
- Employee Experience: Function as the tier-2 escalation point for global employee pay
inquiries, tax withholding issues,
and complex payroll enquiries or disputes. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Experience: 7+ years of progressive payroll experience; strong preference for multiple years managing multi-country global payroll operations in a mid-sized to enterprise corporate environment.
- Education / Background: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or equivalent professional credential desirable.
- Jurisdictional Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of payroll tax rules, statutory benefits, and compliance requirements in at least two of the following regions: Australia, Philippines, India, or Latin America (Colombia).
- Financial & Accounting Literacy: Strong understanding of General Ledger accounting, payroll journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. Prior background working inside a Corporate Controller’s organization is strongly preferred.
- Systems Capability: Advanced proficiency with modern HRIS and Payroll platforms (e.g., Workday, Sprout, NetSuite, SAP, Rippling, Deel, or localized payroll engines). High proficiency in Excel (data manipulation, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables) to enable robust analysis and control of payroll.
- Vendor Operations: Proven ability to manage and drive accountability with 3rd-party payroll service providers and local tax advisors.
- Language & Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across global time zones and diverse cultural business practices.
