Role & responsibilities

Fleet Operations & Management

- Manage day-to-day operations of the complete fleet of dumpers, tippers, tankers, trucks, trailers and support vehicles.
- Plan and allocate vehicles based on daily coal handling and transportation requirements.
- Ensure optimum fleet utilization and vehicle availability.
- Monitor vehicle movement from port/terminal to stockyard, storage area, loading/unloading points and dispatch locations.
- Ensure timely deployment of vehicles to meet operational targets.
- Monitor vehicle turnaround time, trip frequency, idle time and utilization.
- Develop efficient vehicle routing and deployment plans to minimize delays and operating costs.

Fleet Maintenance Coordination

- Coordinate with the Maintenance/Workshop team to ensure maximum fleet availability.
- Monitor preventive and breakdown maintenance of all fleet vehicles.
- Ensure timely servicing, inspection and repair of vehicles.
- Maintain records of vehicle breakdowns, repairs, servicing and downtime.
- Monitor vehicle fitness and roadworthiness before deployment.
- Analyze recurring breakdowns and implement corrective measures.

Fuel Management

- Monitor daily fuel consumption of all vehicles.
- Establish and monitor fuel consumption norms for dumpers, tankers, trucks and other vehicles.
- Identify abnormal fuel consumption, pilferage and wastage.
- Maintain accurate records of fuel issued, vehicle-wise consumption and mileage.
- Implement measures for fuel cost reduction and improved fuel efficiency.

Driver & Manpower Management

- Manage and supervise drivers, fleet supervisors, transport coordinators and other logistics personnel.
- Plan driver deployment and shift schedules for 247 operations, wherever required.




- Monitor driver attendance, productivity, discipline and performance.
- Ensure drivers possess valid driving licences and required statutory documents.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety awareness programmes for drivers.
- Ensure compliance with working-hour and rest requirements.

Safety & Compliance

- Ensure strict compliance with HSE and fleet safety procedures.
- Ensure all vehicles have valid registration, insurance, permits, fitness certificates, pollution certificates and other required documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable transport and road safety regulations.
- Monitor vehicle speed, overloading, unsafe driving and unauthorized vehicle usage.
- Investigate vehicle accidents/incidents and implement preventive actions.
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and safety equipment.

Vendor & Transporter Management

- Coordinate with transport contractors and fleet vendors.
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed operational requirements.
- Verify vehicle deployment, trips, tonnage and supporting documents.
- Review transporter bills and validate services before submission for payment.
- Negotiate and monitor transportation costs in coordination with management/commercial teams.
- Ensure adequate availability of vehicles during peak operational requirements.
