Purpose

Shift Executive – Utilities will be responsible for ensuring reliable,

protected, and compliant operation of all utility systems during the assigned shift. The role supports uninterrupted production by managing critical utility assets such as boilers, chillers, water systems, compressed air systems, electrical distribution rooms,

and emergency power systems. This position requires strong mechanical engineering knowledge, regulatory understanding

(GMP/cGMP), and basic Lean practices for continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities /Deliverables

Utility Shift Operations

Ensure uninterrupted operation of all utility systems during the assigned shift.

Monitor performance and operating parameters of:

Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors, Water Treatment Plant, Pre-Treatment Plant, Utility Distribution Systems

Ensure utility availability to production, warehouse,

laboratory, and support areas.

Review utility logs and maintain shift records.

Shift Supervision & Manpower Management

Supervise utility technicians and contract manpower during the shift.

Allocate daily maintenance and operational activities to shift technicians.

Monitor completion of assigned activities.

Ensure optimum manpower utilization during routine and breakdown activities.

Conduct shift handover and takeover meetings.

Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance





Execute and monitor preventive maintenance activities as per schedule.

Attend and coordinate breakdown maintenance activities.

Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues related to utility equipment.

Coordinate with OEMs and service providers when required.

Ensure timely restoration of utility services during emergencies.

Mechanical & Electrical Monitoring

Monitor critical operating parameters including:

Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Voltage, Current, Frequency

Equipment Running Hours

Perform first-level troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.

Ensure proper operation of motors, pumps, valves, control panels, and instrumentation.

GMP, GDP & Documentation Compliance

Follow cGMP requirements applicable to utility operations.

Ensure Good Documentation Practices (GDP) in all utility records.

Maintain logbooks, checklists, maintenance records, and utility reports.

Ensure data integrity and documentation compliance in line with ALCOA++ principles.

Support audits and inspections by providing required utility records.

Safety, EHS & Compliance

Ensure compliance with plant EHS requirements and utility safety procedures.

Follow Permit-to-Work requirements.

Working at Height Procedures

Confined Space Requirements

Identify and report unsafe conditions.

Participate in safety inspections and risk assessments.

Utility Performance Monitoring

Monitor utility consumption and performance trends.

Report abnormal operating conditions.

Support energy conservation initiatives.

Maintain required utility efficiency and reliability levels.

Coordination & Communication

Coordinate with Production, QA, QC, Warehouse, EHS, and

Engineering teams.

Ensure timely communication of utility abnormalities.

Escalate critical utility issues to management as required.

Qualifications Education

B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical

Engineering

Additional notes Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of mechanical utility systems.

Understanding of pharma utility quality standards (PW quality, clean utility parameters).

Ability to read engineering drawings (P&ID;, utility layout).

Experience in Pharma OSD Utilities (mandatory preference).

Exposure to regulatory audits: USFDA, EU-GMP, WHO.

Familiarity with automation systems (BMS/SCADA) is an advantage.
