The Ethical Sourcing Executive is part of the Global Social Impact and Sustainability team and will provide support to the Senior Social Impact Manager (based Kolkata) in assessing and driving improvements of working and living conditions for communities in Twinings’ agricultural supply chain, primarily tea in the region (India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia).
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Twinings ambitious Sourced with Care programme and drive tangible, positive and sustainable impact in its supply chain in the region. The role focuses on issues above and beyond the ones traditionally covered by social audits and have a specific focus on by assessing conditions, driving improvements, and supporting the day-to-day implementation of tailored projects to improve the quality of life in sourcing communities, including gender, living conditions, livelihoods, health, and nutrition.

Key Responsibilities
Monitoring and improvements
- Organise and conduct needs assessments in sourcing communities in the region against the social criteria defined in the assessment tools (TCNA)
by engaging with local communities and relevant stakeholders to identify their needs, priorities in a participatory manner.
- Prepare detailed assessment reports, including scoring and substantiated with evidence to provide clear information to Twinings and producers.
- Identify all key potential social and environmental impacts and risks existing in the system and ensure that their magnitude and significance are understood by the internal stakeholders. Work with Twinings Senior Social Impact Manager and producer groups to agree improvement plan and next actions and keep the internal stakeholders updated.
- Follow up on the progress of suppliers’ improvements against the action plan in a timely manner.
- Build supply chain knowledge in the region (eg: mapping smallholders).
Projects
- Support the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of projects in the region.
- Identify needs and support the development and rollout of training/support programme for sites/producers.
- Support global projects or advise on issues across the supply chain (for example on GBV, health and wellbeing, carbon footprint etc.).
Stakeholders’ engagement
- Work with the Senior SI Manager to develop networks with key stakeholders inside and outside the industry and engage in constructive dialogue, to progress the SI&S; agenda and drive change in our supply chain.
- Participating, as required, in relevant industry bodies, acting as Twinings representative.
- Keep up to date on current industry SI&S; initiatives and best practices.
Communication and reporting / M&E;
- Working with partners and producers to track Sourced with Care KPIs in a timely, effective, and accurate manner, and help measure our impact (including financial resilience and women’s empowerment).
- Reporting on sites ethical performances to internal stakeholders (Head of Social Impact, Senior leadership, buyers)
- Contribute to good quality content gathering and comms activities (case studies, pictures, videos, articles, etc.)
- Effective use of the Twinings Ethical database and other tools to track and analyse records of conditions on tea estates and agreed KPIs.
- Provide additional support as needed for reporting activities.
Team support
- Support with general administrative tasks as well as team systems and processes.
- Support employee engagement initiatives, as needed (internal presentation, newsletter article, employees field visit, etc).
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A passion for engaging with local communities and driving social change in the agriculture supply chain.
- Previous experience of conducting Community-based participatory research or needs assessments
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written (fluent in English) including strong presentation skills.
- Ability to establish and manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of human rights, labour rights, UN SDGs, gender issues and ethical sourcing.
- Ability to travel up to 60% of the time (domestic and international), sometimes with basic facilities.
- Up to date knowledge and good command of MS Office (word, excel and power point are must)
- Degree level in the social or development studies, workplace, agriculture or in relevant discipline.
- Enthusiastic individual, able to work autonomously as well as being a team player.
- Resourceful and solution-orientated mind-set.
- Ability to work independently, work under pressure and to be able to organise own work schedule
- Some Knowledge of the agriculture supply chain and issues related to responsible sourcing in any of the countries in the region.
- At least 2 years’ intensive experience in the relevant fields.
- Sound understanding of ethical issues related to the supply chain, practices and regulations in Sri Lanka, Indonesia and/or India context.
- Knowledge of other languages: Tamil, Bahasa Indonesia, or Hindi.
- Prior experience in human rights, development sector, climate, or sustainability.
- Demonstrate pro-activeness, an enquiring mind and encourages recent ideas.
- Demonstrate teamwork capabilities including in cross functional and international teams.
