ROLE: Electronics Lab Technician
About Role:
We are seeking engineers, technicians, and a machinist to help us complete construction of, and demonstrate, the world’s most energy efficient humanoid robot. RangerMAX was brought to Plaksha University, in Chandigarh (Mohali) by Professor Andy Ruina
(ruina.org). The project is initially for 18 months and, with funding will go for at least
5 years. Eventually, the lab plans to expand to a space robotics center, developing robots for exploration of the moon and mars. The team will only be about 9 people, each with high level skills in at least one area, and each with abilities and energy to work across job-description boundaries. Projects: Biped, quadruped, anti-gravity simulator, motor
Testing.
You keep the electronics side of the lab running. That means soldering (including fine-
pitch SMD rework), cable harness fabrication, board-level testing, component inventory,
and equipment maintenance. The robots in this lab use dense, custom PCBs with SMD components throughout. There are no through-hole-only boards here.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· SMD soldering and rework: hot air, reflow, fine-pitch QFP and QFN packages, passive components down to 0402.
· Fabricate cable harnesses: crimping, labeling, routing, strain relief, connector assembly.
· Board-level testing: power-on checks,
continuity testing, basic functional verification using
· Component procurement support: identify parts, check stock, place orders, maintain inventory records.
· Maintain ESD-safe workstations, soldering stations, and test equipment in working order.
· Support engineers during integration and debugging sessions.
· Maintain organized records of board serial numbers, rework history, and known issues
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
· ITI / Diploma / B.Tech in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
· Demonstrated SMD soldering and rework skills (bring examples or be ready for a test).
· Experience in a production or prototyping electronics lab.
· IPC soldering certification or equivalent training.
· Familiarity with ESD handling procedures.
· Experience with CAN bus or other automotive/industrial wiring standards
SKILLS:
· Comfort with standard test equipment: oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, bench power supply.
· Ability to read electronic schematics and PCB assembly drawings.
· Organized and methodical work habits.
· Valuable English and Hindi communication.
LOCATION: Ark Foundation Robotics Lab, Plaksha University, Mohali, India.
