The Driver of a Mobile Medical Unit plays a vital role in ensuring the secure, timely, and efficient movement of the MMU team and vehicle to deliver healthcare services to remote and underserved areas. The driver not only operates the vehicle but also assists in maintaining the MMU’s functionality, supporting field activities, and ensuring community outreach runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Vehicle Operation and Safety

- Drive the Mobile Medical Unit safely to designated outreach locations as per the schedule.
- Follow all traffic rules, safety guidelines, and government transport regulations.
- Ensure punctual arrival and departure at all program sites.

2. Vehicle Maintenance

- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle (fuel, oil, water, tires, brakes, etc.).
- Keep the MMU clean, both inside and outside.
- Report any mechanical issues or breakdowns immediately to the concerned supervisor.
- Coordinate with the authorized service center for timely servicing and repairs.
- Maintain a logbook for vehicle movement, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.

3. Support to Medical Team

- Assist in setting up and dismantling camp equipment at field sites.
- Help load and unload medical supplies, medicines, and equipment safely.
- Provide logistical support to the healthcare staff during field visits.
- Ensure power supply (generator, inverter, etc.)



and basic utilities in the MMU are operational.

4. Community and Team Coordination

- Maintain professional behavior with community members and local authorities.
- Cooperate with the MMU team (doctor, nurse, pharmacist, community coordinator) to ensure smooth operations.
- Follow instructions from the team leader or community coordinator regarding route plans and scheduling.

5. Documentation and Reporting

- Maintain accurate trip records (distance, fuel, location, date, and time).
- Support in maintaining transport-related documents such as insurance, road tax, pollution certificate, and driving license.
- Report any incident, accident, or delay immediately to the program supervisor.

6. Compliance and Conduct

- Ensure the MMU vehicle is used only for official purposes.
- Follow organizational policies on vehicle usage and safety.
- Uphold confidentiality and respect for patients and healthcare operations.

Qualifications and Skills (Typical Requirements)

- Valid commercial driving license (Heavy Motor Vehicle, if applicable).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in driving large vehicles (preferably ambulances, vans, or MMUs).
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to read and write the local language and maintain log records.
- Courteous, disciplined, and responsible behavior.
