We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to lead engineering design activities for new product development and product improvement initiatives. The role will involve managing design deliverables, supporting product development projects, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are technically sound, manufacturable, and delivered within timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Plastic product design and engineering activities from concept through development and implementation.
- Develop and review 3D models, 2D drawings and engineering documentation using relevant CAD tools.
- Evaluate designs for functionality, manufacturability, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Support new product development, product improvement and design modification activities.
- Work closely with manufacturing and tooling teams to ensure smooth transition of designs into production.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and Commercial teams.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions and customer interactions as required.
- Support prototyping, testing, validation and implementation of engineering changes.
- Identify potential design and process risks and support appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct technical analysis and support problem-solving for design and manufacturing-related issues.
- Manage project timelines and ensure completion of design deliverables as per agreed schedules.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and team members.
- Maintain proper design records, engineering documentation and knowledge-sharing practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to product design, engineering processes and manufacturability.
- Support reverse engineering and benchmarking activities wherever required.
Preferred Technical Exposure
- Solid experience in 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawings.
- Hands-on experience with Creo / AutoCAD or similar engineering design software.
- Exposure to tooling / mould design and manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of plastic product design and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Exposure to design analysis / simulation tools will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of DFMEA, Six Sigma and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Understanding of product validation, testing and engineering change processes.
Candidate Profile
- Qualification: Diploma / Post Diploma / BE / B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering / Design Engineering / Plastic Engineering or relevant discipline.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in Plastic Product Design / Engineering Design / NPD.
- Experience in a manufacturing or engineering-driven environment.
- Strong understanding of product development lifecycle and design processes.
- Experience managing or guiding a team of design engineers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
- Good communication and cross-functional coordination abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple functions.
