nResponsibilities / Expectations from the Role

nManage and support PostgreSQL databases on Azure Database for PostgreSQL (Flexible Server) and AWS RDS / Aurora PostgreSQL.

nPerform database provisioning, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, backup/restore, and ensure HA/DR readiness.

n3

nAnalyze and optimize database performance using query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, and pg_stat_* views.

n4

nIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to CPU, memory, I/O, locks, and capacity planning.

n5

nAdminister cloud-native database services including scaling, storage optimization, cost optimization, networking, security groups, IAM/RBAC, encryption, audit logs, and access control.

nPlan and execute database migration projects including on-prem to cloud and cross-cloud migrations using Azure DMS, AWS DMS, and native PostgreSQL replication.

nPlan and execute PostgreSQL major version upgrades with minimal downtime, including compatibility checks, blue-green or replica-based strategies, and post-upgrade validation.

nAutomate DBA tasks using Shell scripting, Python, or PowerShell and implement Infrastructure as Code where applicable.

nWork closely with application teams, DevOps engineers, and cloud architects; provide L2/L3 production support, participate in incident RCA, and contribute to runbooks and SOPs.

nDrive success metrics including database uptime, query performance improvements, migration success with minimal downtime, upgrade success without regression, and cost optimization achieved.
