Job Overview A reputed Multi-Speciality Hospital in Ankleshwar is looking for a qualified and experienced Clinical Microbiologist to join its laboratory team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for microbiological testing, culture and sensitivity, infection-control support, quality assurance and accurate reporting of laboratory results. The role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to work closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and supervise routine clinical microbiology investigations on patient specimens.
- Process and examine samples including blood, urine, sputum, swabs, body fluids and other clinical specimens.
- Perform culture, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) as per laboratory protocols.
- Interpret microbiological findings and ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.
- Maintain proper specimen collection, transportation, processing and storage procedures.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory quality-control standards.
- Ensure adherence to infection-control and biosafety protocols.
- Support the hospital's Infection Control Committee with microbiological data and surveillance activities.
- Identify and communicate significant or unusual microbiological findings to the appropriate clinical team.
- Monitor antimicrobial resistance patterns and maintain relevant records.
- Ensure proper documentation, traceability and maintenance of laboratory records.
- Handle laboratory equipment, reagents and consumables responsibly.
- Perform routine quality checks and calibration/verification activities as applicable.
- Follow biomedical waste management and laboratory safety procedures.
- Assist with internal audits, quality improvement initiatives and accreditation-related documentation.
- Stay updated with current microbiology laboratory practices and infection-control guidelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- M.Sc. in Microbiology / Medical Microbiology or equivalent qualification.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory or clinical microbiology laboratory.
- Strong practical knowledge of culture and sensitivity, microbial identification and AST.
- Knowledge of bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and basic virology.
- Familiarity with infection prevention and hospital infection-control practices.
- Good understanding of laboratory quality-control procedures.
- Knowledge of NABH / NABL laboratory standards will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses, laboratory staff and other hospital departments.
Preferred Experience

- Hospital-based clinical microbiology
- Culture and sensitivity testing
- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Hospital infection surveillance
- Infection-control programmes
- NABH/NABL-accredited laboratories
- Handling automated microbiology systems
