The role
Sifars is a software services company — we design and build software for clients, most of them in the US and UK. We work out of two offices, Gurgaon and Mohali.
Before anyone here can sell to a client, someone has to find that client, understand their business, and start the conversation. That is lead generation, and that is this role. You will be trained from the beginning and work alongside the team on live work, with a mentor guiding and reviewing what you do.
What you will be doing
- Watching how experienced people judge an opportunity and write outreach, and picking up why one approach works and another does not
- Researching companies and working out which are a genuine fit for us, and which are not
- Finding the right person to approach at each one, and verifying how to reach them
- Shortlisting opportunities against our criteria and recommending which are worth pursuing
- Writing short, specific outreach — not templates
- Keeping follow-ups on schedule so that interested prospects do not go cold
- Recording every contact, conversation and outcome in our CRM (Customer Relationship Management system — the software where all of this lives)
Who can apply You need to be free to work full-time, five days a week, from our office for the full three months. Our working window is 10 AM to 7 PM — the later part of the day is when the people you will be learning from are online, so it is when most of the learning happens. There is some flexibility at the edges, but the commitment is full-time and it cannot be combined with ongoing college classes or another job.
You will need to bring your own laptop. Everything else at your desk — monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset — is provided.
Graduates, final-year students who have finished their classes, anyone on a gap year, and anyone with a year or two of experience looking to change direction are all welcome to apply.
What we require
- Can follow a multi-step process carefully, without skipping or misreading a step
- Can read something a client has written and identify what they are actually asking for
- Can write clear, confident English — assured, not hesitant
- Can hold a clear, confident conversation in English on the phone, including with people abroad
- Can read about an unfamiliar business for five minutes and say what it does, and what would matter to it, in two sentences
- Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets,
and has used an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude for real work
We will look at each of these rather than take them on trust. You will hear what to expect before your interview. What we do not require
No prior experience in sales, lead generation, marketing or calling — we will train all of it. No experience with a CRM or any of our tools. No specific degree, no technical background, and no knowledge of how software is built. No certifications and no portfolio.
If you have never done this work and genuinely want to learn it, you are who this is for.
What helps, though — without being required. Some familiarity with technology goes a long way here — enough to recognise what a client means when they mention an app, a platform or an integration will help you judge opportunities faster. So does any previous work that involved approaching people you did not know — campus placements, fundraising, customer service, retail, a family business. Neither is a requirement, and plenty of people without either do this job very well.
What this role is NOT
Not a closing role — you create and qualify opportunities, while negotiation, pricing and contracts are handled elsewhere. Not a client relationship or consulting role. Not a content, marketing or design role, even though the work involves writing. Not technical — you will not be writing code or building anything.
Much of this work is repetitive by design. That repetition is the job, not a phase you graduate out of.
What you will take away
By the end of the three months you will be able to:
- Research a company you have never heard of and judge whether it is worth approaching — and explain why
- Find the right person to contact at a business and work out how to reach them
- Write outreach that gets read and answered rather than ignored
- Work a CRM properly and keep records clean enough that someone else can pick them up
You also leave with an experience certificate covering the work you actually did. These are the foundations of a career in sales or business development,
and they transfer anywhere you go next. What this work will ask of you
You will hear “no” a great deal, and some days you will do everything right and get nothing back. People struggle here when they go quiet after a bad week and stop asking for help, when they take rejection personally rather than reading it as information, or when they settle into one way of working and keep repeating it long after it has stopped working. The ones who do well treat rejection as data, watch their own numbers, and adjust.
What we will be looking for
Over the three months, four things tell us how it is going. They are what “doing well” means here, what your mentor’s feedback will keep returning to, and what your certificate and reference from us will reflect at the end:
- Reliability — work comes back complete and on time, without being chased
- Judgement — you can explain why you pursued one opportunity and set another aside
- Consistency — your output holds up after a bad week, not only after a positive one
- Self-correction — you track your own results and change your approach based on what they tell you
