Position: Backend Developer (Node.js)
Experience: 1.5 – 3 years
Location: Gurgaon
Employment Type: Full-Time-Onsite
About Us:
At SportsDunia, we build a live-scores and sports-content platform for football and cricket fans on Android, iOS and the web. Behind the app is a real-time data platform that ingests live feeds from sports data vendors, turns them into scores, commentary, line-ups, stats and standings in multiple languages, and delivers them to fans within seconds through live screens, streams and push notifications. Our mission is to be the go-to destination for sports fans across India and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain server-side application logic in Node.js / Express for our mobile apps and website
Work on live data ingestion: consume vendor feeds (webhooks, MQTT, REST polling), normalise them and fan them out through Redis to the serving layer
Design REST APIs for match listings, match details, competitions, teams and players with a focus on low latency and correct caching
Work on real-time delivery: Server-Sent Events fan-out and Firebase push notifications
Model and query data in MongoDB (schemas, aggregation pipelines, indexes) and keep it consistent with what Redis serves live
Build and maintain scheduled jobs (cron seeders) that sync fixtures, competitions, teams, squads and rankings from vendors
Write clean, readable, testable code and review teammates' pull requests
Deploy to staging and production, read production logs, reproduce and debug live issues
Collaborate with mobile and front-end developers on API contracts
Work on security and data protection (secrets handling, access control)
Requirements:
1.5+ years of hands-on experience with Node.js in production; strong understanding of async/await, the event loop and error handling
Good working knowledge of Express (routing, middleware, validation, controller/service separation)
Working knowledge of MongoDB with Mongoose: schema design, aggregation pipelines ($lookup, $group), indexes
Working knowledge of Redis: key/TTL design, caching patterns, pub/sub
Understanding of REST API design: versioning, pagination, consistent error handling, mobile clients on slow networks
Modern JavaScript (ES2020+), Promises, working with JSON at volume
Thorough knowledge of Git and GitHub: feature branches, small focused PRs, rebasing and cherry-picking
Linux basics: SSH, reading logs, processes, setting variables, cron
Ability to reproduce an issue, measure before fixing, and explain what was found
Good to Have:
Real-time delivery: Server-Sent Events or WebSockets
Message streams / queues: Redis Streams, Kafka or similar
PM2, nginx, zero-downtime deployments; Docker basics
Cloud basics on Azure or AWS: VMs, load balancers, managed Redis
Firebase Cloud Messaging (topics, conditions, service accounts)
Experience integrating third-party sports data APIs (rate limits, webhooks vs polling, handling stale vendor data)
TypeScript; unit testing with Jest or similar
Python for scripting
Internationalisation (serving the same data in multiple languages)
Interest in football or cricket
