Job Profile: Assistant Merchandiser (Leather & Textile Garments)
Job Overview
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Merchandiser with 3 to 5 years of experience in garment manufacturing and export. In this role, you will help manage the end-to-end production cycle for Fashion & Moto (Motorcycle) clothing made from leather and textiles. You will serve as a key support, ensuring smooth coordination between internal departments and helping execute orders flawlessly from design to final dispatch.
Reporting & Structure
- Reporting to: Senior Merchandiser & Marketing Manager.
- Internal Coordination: Works daily with the Design, Sampling, Sourcing, Production, Quality Assurance (QA), and Logistics teams.
- Buyer Communication: Handles internal team coordination primarily, but must be capable of stepping up to communicate directly with international buyers via email or calls as required.
Key Candidate Criteria
- Experience: 3 to 5 years in an apparel/leather export house or garment factory.
- Location Preference: Must live along major Mumbai travel routes for an easy commute to MIDC, Andheri East: Andheri to Borivali (Western), Andheri to Mulund (Central/Link Road), or Andheri to Dadar (Central/Western).
- Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Core Job Responsibilities (Junior-Level Focus)1. Order Execution & Follow-up
- Track the daily status of active orders and update the Master Production Merchant sheets.
- Assist the Senior Merchandiser in preparing daily and weekly status reports for the Marketing Manager.
- Raise internal factory orders (Job Cards) and ensure all departments have the correct, updated tech packs.
2. Sampling Support & Coordination
- Follow up closely with the sampling room for Proto, Fit, Size-set, and Pre-Production (PP) samples.
- Coordinate with the internal design team to ensure sample corrections are made on time.
- Prepare sample packages to be sent to buyers and track buyer feedback and approvals.
3. Sourcing & Trim Card Management
- Follow up with vendors for raw materials (leather hides, fabrics) and specialised trims (CE protectors, YKK zippers, reflective tapes).
- Create and maintain accurate Trim Cards and swatch boards for the production floor.
- Verify incoming material quantities against the Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure no shortages.
4. Internal Communication & T&A; Maintenance
- Bridge the gap between the marketing office and the production floor by delivering transparent instructions.
- Update and maintain the Time & Action (T&A;) Calendar to ensure the factory hits every milestone.
- Alert the Senior Merchandiser immediately if any department faces delays that could affect the shipment date.
5. Buyer Interaction (As Required)
- Draft professional emails to buyers regarding sample status, approval requests, or clarifications on tech packs.
- Step in to handle basic buyer queries when the Senior Merchandiser or Marketing Manager is unavailable.
6. Documentation & Systems Management
- File and organise all style folders, including buyer comments, approved swatches, and final costings.
- Enter accurate order data into the company's system or Excel tracking sheets.
Required Technical Skills & Junior Competencies
- Material & Product Awareness: Familiarity with garment manufacturing, leather types, and technical textiles.
- Software: Good command of MS Excel (spreadsheets, basic formulas) and email etiquette.
- Language: Strong written and spoken English, as well as fluent Hindi/Marathi to communicate effectively with the factory floor workers.
- Attitude: A quick learner who is highly organised, energetic, and eager to handle factory-floor realities.
