Roles & Responsibilities: Assembly Operator

Position Summary The Assembly Operator is responsible for assembling machine parts, sub-assemblies, and finished units on the shop floor as per engineering drawings, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality requirements. The role requires hands-on mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards to ensure timely and defect-free production.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Assembly Operations

Assemble mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components into sub-assemblies and final machine units as per drawings and work instructions. Fit and align sheet metal parts, frames, motors, drives, pneumatic fittings, and other components accurately.

Use hand tools, power tools, and assembly fixtures correctly and safely to complete assigned tasks.

Follow the sequence of assembly operations as per the process/work instruction sheet to maintain consistency and quality.

Perform basic wiring, tubing, and fitting connections for pneumatic and electrical sub-systems under supervision/guidance.

1. Reading Drawings & Specifications

Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and assembly instructions to ensure correct component usage and assembly sequence. Identify and use correct parts/components as specified, avoiding mix-ups between similar-looking items.

Report any discrepancies between drawings and actual parts to the supervisor/engineer.

1. Quality Checks

Perform basic in-process checks (dimensional, visual, fitment) during assembly to catch defects early. Ensure assembled units meet fitment, alignment, and functional requirements before moving to the next stage.

Flag and report defective components, misfits, or quality issues to the supervisor/QMS team immediately.





Support functional testing/trial runs of assembled machines as required.

Ensure rework/rejected parts are handled as per defined process (segregation, tagging, reporting).

1. Tools, Equipment & Workstation Maintenance

Maintain assembly tools, fixtures, and equipment in good working condition. Report any tool/equipment malfunction or damage to the maintenance team promptly.

Keep the assembly workstation clean, organized, and free of clutter (5S practices).

Ensure proper storage and handling of components to avoid damage or loss.

1. Production Targets & Reporting

Complete assigned assembly tasks within the specified time/target to meet daily/weekly production plans. Report production output, delays, or bottlenecks to the shift supervisor/production lead.

Maintain basic production records (units assembled, rejections, downtime) as required.

Support the supervisor in identifying opportunities to improve assembly speed and reduce errors.

1. Safety & Compliance

Follow all safety protocols, including use of PPE (safety shoes, gloves, goggles, etc.) at all times. Adhere to safe handling practices for tools, machinery, and materials to prevent accidents.

Report any unsafe conditions, near-misses, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

Comply with company policies on housekeeping, discipline, and shift schedules.

1. Teamwork & Coordination

Coordinate with fellow operators, fitters,



and supervisors to ensure smooth flow of assembly operations. Communicate any material shortages, tool issues, or process bottlenecks to the supervisor promptly.

Support cross-training and flexibility to work on different assembly stations as required.

Follow instructions from supervisors/quality team and provide feedback on practical assembly challenges.

Required Skills & Competencies

Basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hand tools/power tools.

Ability to read and understand easy engineering drawings and assembly instructions.

Attention to detail and focus on quality/fitment accuracy.

Physical fitness to handle manual assembly work, including lifting and standing for extended periods.

Basic understanding of pneumatic and electrical fittings is an added advantage.

Willingness to work in shifts and adapt to changing production priorities.

Good teamwork and communication skills on the shop floor.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: ITI/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or related trade (or equivalent shop-floor experience).

Experience: 1–4 years of experience in assembly/fitment roles, preferably in machinery, sheet metal, or industrial equipment manufacturing.

Freshers with ITI/Diploma qualifications and strong mechanical aptitude may also be considered.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
