We are looking for a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Azure Local (formerly Azure Stack HCI), VMware, infrastructure automation, and large-scale migration projects.
The engineer will support a major infrastructure modernization initiative to migrate workloads from VMware vSphere to Azure Local. This role covers the full migration lifecycle, including Azure Local deployment, networking, automation, workload migration, backup/recovery, testing, and production cutovers.
The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, automate repetitive tasks, and confidently lead technical activities during scheduled migration windows.
Key ResponsibilitiesAzure Local & Infrastructure
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure Local / Azure Stack HCI clusters.
- Configure and manage integration with Azure Arc, Active Directory/identity, and Azure services.
- Support cluster networking, storage, compute, and overall infrastructure configuration.
- Perform infrastructure health checks and resolve deployment or configuration issues.
VMware Migration
- Assess existing VMware vSphere environments, including vCenter and ESXi.
- Plan and execute migrations of virtual machines from VMware to Azure Local.
- Migrate Windows servers, application servers, SQL workloads, and legacy VMs.
- Perform pre-migration validation, migration, testing, and post-migration verification.
- Troubleshoot migration issues and coordinate rollback when required.
Networking & Security(Knowledge)
- Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, subnets, routing, DNS, TCP/IP, and firewall rules.
- Work with enterprise firewalls such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Azure Firewall.
- Ensure required connectivity for Azure Local registration, Azure Arc, storage, replication, management, and application workloads.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues during migration and cutover activities.
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Automate infrastructure deployment and migration activities wherever possible.
- Develop and maintain Terraform modules for infrastructure provisioning.
- Use PowerShell, Python, Bicep, or other scripting tools to automate health checks, configuration, validation, and remediation.
- Integrate automation with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions where applicable.
- Create reusable scripts and processes to reduce manual work.
Migration & Weekend Cutovers
- Participate in scheduled weekend migration and production cutover windows.
- Serve as the technical lead or key technical resource during assigned cutovers.
- Execute final synchronization, migration, validation, and application health checks.
- Troubleshoot production issues in real time and coordinate with application, network, database, and infrastructure teams.
- Document migration results, issues, resolutions, and rollback procedures.
Documentation
- Develop and maintain migration runbooks, technical procedures, automation scripts, and troubleshooting guides.
- Document lessons learned and continuously improve the migration process.
- Ensure migration activities are repeatable and well documented.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or cloud infrastructure.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
- Proven experience migrating workloads from VMware to Azure Local / Azure Stack HCI or similar HCI platforms.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing Azure Local environments.
- Robust understanding of:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- VLANs and subnets
- Routing
- Load balancing
- Enterprise firewall configuration
- Strong PowerShell or Python scripting skills.
- Experience supporting production infrastructure and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and participate in scheduled weekend migration/cutover activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong Terraform experience, including:
- Production-grade modules
- State management
- Infrastructure provisioning
- CI/CD integration
- Experience with Azure Migrate or migration tools such as Zerto or Carbonite.
- Hands-on Rubrik experience.
- Experience with Azure Arc.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory.
- Experience optimizing NVMe/SSD storage and compute resources in HCI environments.
Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday: Remote/Hybrid, based on project requirements.
- Weekend: Availability required for scheduled migration and production cutover activities.
- Weekend work is expected every other weekend or as scheduled during the approximately 3-month peak migration period.
- Weekend hours will be compensated through applicable overtime, differential, bonus, or compensatory time off, based on the engagement terms.
