Role: Freelance SAP ABAP Developer
Company Name: Will Ware Technologies
Work Model: Remote / Contract
Work Timing: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Experience: 5+ Years
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced SAP ABAP Developer to join our SAP team. You will develop and support ABAP solutions on our live SAP ECC 6.0 platform across Sales Distribution, Materials Management, and Finance including interfaces with POS, e-commerce, warehouse, and other external systems.
As a member of the in-house SAP team, the SAP ABAP Developer will:
- Serve as a hands-on developer for the ECC setting, delivering enhancements, interfaces, reports, forms and fixes with high quality.
- Act as a technical problem-solver for production incidents, performing root-cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions.
- Work closely with SAP functional consultants (SD, MM, Retail, FICO),business process owners, integration teams and infrastructure teams.
Job Responsibilities:
1. SAP ABAP Development
- Design, develop and maintain ABAP reports and executable programs, including classical, interactive and ALV reports.
- Develop and maintain forms using Smart Forms (invoices, delivery notes, purchase orders and other business documents).
- Build and maintain function modules, BAPIs and RFC-enabled functions. Implement enhancements using user exits, customer exits, BAdIs and the Enhancement Framework.
- Apply ABAP Objects / object-oriented ABAP in new developments and refactoring of existing code.
- Design, schedule and monitor background jobs, including error handling and restart logic.
- Optimize program and query performance (efficient SELECT design, index usage, avoidance of nested loops, runtime analysis with SAT/ST05/SE30).
- Develop dialog (module pool) programs where required by business scenarios.
- Debug complex issues across custom and standard code and drive them to root cause.
2. SAP Integration
- Develop and support interfaces using IDoc, RFC, BAPI, web services (SOAP), and REST APIs where applicable.
- Build and maintain file-based interfaces (inbound/outbound, including validation, error handling and reprocessing).
- Work with middleware / integration platforms used in the landscape, in collaboration with the integration team.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve interface failures (IDoc reprocessing, queue monitoring, connectivity and mapping issues).
- Support integrations between SAP and POS, retail, e-commerce, warehouse, and other external systems, ensuring data consistency end to end.
3. Production Support
- Analyze SAP incidents and production issues within agreed service levels. Perform structured technical root-cause analysis, distinguishing between data, configuration and code issues.
- Debug ABAP programs, enhancements and interfaces. Implement permanent corrective fixes rather than temporary workarounds, and document known errors where a permanent fix requires planning.
- Provide support for urgent production issues when required, including occasional out-of-hours support for critical incidents.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, and conduct knowledge transfer within the team.
4. Enhancements & Change Requests
- Analyze functional requirements together with functional consultants and business users.
- Prepare clear technical specifications,
including design alternatives where relevant.
- Estimate development effort realistically and flag risks and dependencies early.
- Develop, unit-test and transport changes following the change and transport management process.
- Support System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including defect analysis and resolution.
- Ensure developments follow coding standards, naming conventions and documentation requirements.
5. Support for the S/4HANA Transformation
- Custom-code knowledge: act as the go-to person for the existing ECC custom developments and interfaces — explaining their purpose, business context, dependencies and known issues to the SI partner and project team.
- Custom-code housekeeping: help identify obsolete, unused or duplicated ABAP developments in ECC so that unnecessary custom code is retired rather than carried into S/4HANA.
- Impact input: provide input to the SI partner's custom-code assessment and simplification-item analysis by clarifying how existing developments are actually used.
- Freeze and dual-maintenance discipline: deliver ECC changes during the project in line with the programme's code-freeze and dual-maintenance rules.
- Testing support: support SIT/UAT and cutover rehearsal activities where in- house knowledge of interfaces, data and business processes is needed.
- Stability: keep the ECC production environment stable and well-supported throughout the transition — this is critical to the programme's success.
- Knowledge transfer: receive structured knowledge transfer from the SI partner during and after the project, and progressively build familiarity with the
- S/4HANA environment (new tables and data models, ADT/Eclipse, CDS
- Views, Fiori) to support the system after go-live.
