Role : Technical Writer (Remote)

Role Overview:
We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Senior DoD Staff Writing SME to work on a Full-Time basis. The role involves producing and refining technical documentation aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) standards and compliance requirements. The position supports delivery of mission-critical systems through clear and accurate written deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, review, and maintain DoD-compliant technical documentation including system specifications, interface control documents, and user manuals.
• Ensure all deliverables meet DoD standards such as MIL-STD-499, DoD 5000 series, and related frameworks.
• Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and compliance teams to align documentation with system requirements and stakeholder needs.
• Conduct technical reviews and incorporate feedback to improve clarity, accuracy, and compliance of documentation.
• Provide subject matter expertise in DoD documentation processes to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical writing with at least 4 years focused on DoD documentation standards.
• Demonstrated expertise in MIL-STD-499, DoD 5000 series,
or similar compliance frameworks.
• Strong working knowledge of systems engineering principles and lifecycle documentation.
• Proven ability to write clearly for technical and non-technical audiences in defense and aerospace contexts.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as DOORS or Jama Connect.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) documentation in DoD environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare).
• Security clearance eligibility or active clearance strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation deliverables concurrently.
