Role Title: Storage, Backup and Cyber Resiliency SME / Lead Engineer

Role Summary: We are looking for a robust Storage, Backup and Cyber Resiliency SME with hands-on experience across on-premises, colocation, VMware, AWS, VMC on AWS, NetApp, Dell storage and enterprise backup environments. The candidate should be able to assess the current storage and backup landscape, reduce dependency on vendors, identify operational gaps, support cloud migration initiatives, and improve service transparency, resiliency, utilization, and cost optimization across hybrid infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and document the current storage, backup, cyber recovery, VMware, cloud and colocation footprint across APAC, EMEA and North America environments.

Work closely with vendor teams, cloud teams, VMware teams, application teams and internal stakeholders to clarify ownership, map dependencies and resolve operational gaps.

Manage storage administration activities including provisioning, capacity planning, utilization monitoring, performance review, allocation, expansion and day-to-day support.

Support backup administration, restore operations, retention policy alignment, backup failure resolution and long-term retention requirements including seven- and ten-year compliance-driven retention.

Support migration from legacy colo and VMware environments to AWS, VMC on AWS, EC2, FSx for ONTAP and future GCP environments where applicable.

Implement and support cyber resiliency capabilities including immutable backups, cyber vaulting, clean-room recovery, isolated recovery environments,



data scanning and RTO/RPO validation.

Drive cost optimization by analyzing storage allocation, snapshot retention, backup utilization, infrastructure sizing and lower-cost platform alternatives.

Contribute to automation using Terraform or similar infrastructure automation tools for repeatable provisioning, configuration and operational efficiency.

Required Skills and Experience

Strong hands-on experience in enterprise storage and backup administration in large hybrid infrastructure environments.

Experience with NetApp storage, FSx for ONTAP, NAS file shares, on-prem file servers and cloud-based file storage operations.

Experience with Dell / EMC storage platforms such as Unity, Isilon, VMAX or PowerMax.

Strong understanding of backup technologies including native AWS / Azure backups and third-party tools such as Dell backup platforms, Cohesity, Rubrik, Commvault or similar solutions.

Experience supporting VMware-based environments, VMC on AWS, EC2 instances, EBS volumes, instance sizing, scaling and utilization-based optimization.

Good understanding of cyber recovery, disaster recovery, immutable backup, cyber vault, clean-room recovery, isolated restore testing and production reintegration controls.

Knowledge of backup retention, restore procedures, compliance requirements, RTO/RPO planning and data recovery governance.





Working knowledge of infrastructure automation, preferably Terraform, for cloud or storage provisioning and operational automation.

Ability to analyze current-state environments, identify gaps, create remediation plans and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

Experience in insurance, banking, financial services or other regulated enterprise environments.

Exposure to GCP transformation programs, especially storage and backup considerations during cloud migration.

Experience working in vendor-dependent environments and reducing dependency by improving internal documentation, ownership clarity and operational transparency.

Familiarity with DORA or similar resiliency and regulatory requirements across the UK and EMEA regions.

Ability to support both hands-on technical operations and advisory discussions around cost, resiliency, migration and operating model improvement.

Recruiter Screening Focus

Look for candidates with deep storage and backup operations experience, not only generic cloud administration.

Prioritize candidates who have worked on NetApp, Dell / EMC, VMware, AWS, EC2, FSx ONTAP and enterprise backup tools.

Validate hands-on restore, backup failure handling, retention policy and cyber recovery experience during screening.

Strong candidates should be able to explain migration from on-prem or colo environments to cloud and discuss cost optimization, RTO/RPO and clean recovery validation.

Terraform or automation experience is preferred, especially where used for infrastructure provisioning or repeatable operational tasks.
