We are recruiting PhD students at IIT Bombay (Department of Civil Engineering) for the Spring 2026–27 intake, with classes starting in January 2027. You will take ideas from AI models to working autonomous systems for Indian traffic: design the algorithms, build the hardware, and test them on scaled and full-scale vehicles.

What you will work on

- Connected and autonomous vehicles: V2X applications, autonomous platforms, intelligent ADAS
- Embedded systems and prototyping: sensing, sensor fusion, PCB prototyping, system integration
- AI/ML and data-driven modelling: transportation modelling, prediction, simulation, traffic operations
- Human factors and behaviour: driver physiology, operator psychology, biometric sensing
- Digital logistics: trusted logistics, blockchain e-BL, fleet intelligence, supply-chain AI
- Road safety and infrastructure: mixed-traffic safety, roadside monitoring and warning systems

Who should apply

- A bachelor's or master's degree in civil, mechanical, electrical/electronics, computer science, data science, industrial engineering, robotics/embedded systems or a related discipline
- IIT Bombay eligibility: first class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST). B.Tech/B.E. and M.Sc. applicants also need a valid GATE score or two years of work experience; IIT graduates with a CPI of 8.0 or above are exempt from GATE
- Hands-on experience with C/C++, Python or embedded hardware is a plus
