Job Summary
As a Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing 1D physical models and system architectures using Dymola (Modelica) and GTSuite. You will design, simulate, and optimize complex multi-physics systems to enhance performance and efficiency, collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, and ensure compliance through model validation and data correlation.
Your role will also involve using FMI/FMU standards for model exchange, troubleshooting cosimulation issues, developing optimization strategies, and documenting design processes and simulation test procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative 1-D physical models for electrical components, including but not limited to power electronics (inverters, converters, rectifiers), electric drives (induction, synchronous, and DC machines), and energy storage solutions (batteries, fuel cells, chargers).
- Execute high-fidelity electrical system modelling and power balance analyses to support virtual component dimensioning, subsystem integration, and multi-scenario performance evaluations.
- Design and implement comprehensive multi-domain system modelling architectures, seamlessly coupling electrical subsystem models with physical thermal, fluid, and mechanical systems.
- Develop dynamic component and system-level models using Dymola (Modelica) and GTSuite; validate these models through simulation, time-series data analysis, and experimental lab data.
- Use of the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) standard by creating, exporting, and integrating Functional Mock-up Units (FMUs) to enable seamless, IP-protected model sharing and co-simulation across diverse software platforms.
- Set up and execute robust co-simulation frameworks linking Dymola/Modelica, GT-Suite, and MathWorks environments.
- Validate developed models in simulation through close correlation with test and experimental data; proactively identify performance gaps and bridge them by continuously refining simulation methods.
- Develop advanced optimization strategies suitable for electric system concept design analysis through custom codes, model parameterization, or reduction techniques to ensure the optimal delivery of the required performance attributes.
- Data-based model development using AI/ML tools, establishing surrogate modelling methodologies and artificial intelligence frameworks (such as Artificial Neural Networks) to streamline workflows.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in 1D plant modelling, virtual system integration, and automation, applying new knowledge to improve existing processes, model reduction techniques, and toolchains.
- Prepare technical documents and presentations to communicate simulation findings, correlation gaps, and project progress to stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Expertise in software tools including Dymola (Modelica) and GT-Suite for physical system modelling and simulation.
- Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical components and system-level interactions within electrical architecture.
- Experience applying 1D physical models toward downstream engineering targets including component selection sizing, trip performance / range prediction, charging plan optimization, and the reuse evaluation of existing electrical components on new platforms.
- Good understanding of model execution constraints, with hands-on experience optimizing 1D model architectures for high-speed computation, real-time targets, and reduced CPU runtime overhead.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
- Knowledge of MATLAB-based auto code generation is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Soft Skills
- Firm grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, able to function effectively in independent and team-based situations.
- Must demonstrate strong proficiency in preparing written reports and effectively presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong written and oral communication skills required with good interpersonal skills, able to express concepts and ideas with clarity.
- Ability to work with onsite Teams and engineers.
- Solid problem solving and critical thinking skills.
