About the RoleWe're looking for a Design Engineer to join our New Product Development (NPD) team. You'll turn concepts into manufacturable products, creating 3D models in SolidWorks, preparing detailed layouts and drawings in AutoCAD, and working closely with production, sourcing, and quality teams to take products from idea to launch.
Key Responsibilities
Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed part drawings in SolidWorks for current products and product improvements.
Prepare 2D layouts, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and plant or equipment layouts in AutoCAD.
Take part in the full NPD cycle: concept, design, prototyping, testing, and handover to production.
Apply GD&T; and drafting standards so drawings are accurate and ready for manufacturing.
Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), and choose suitable materials and processes (sheet metal, machining, plastics, fabrication, etc.).
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), revision records, and engineering change documentation.
Work with vendors and the shop floor to build prototypes, fix design problems, and improve designs based on feedback.
Carry out basic engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and design validation.
Support cost reduction and value engineering on existing products.
Keep design files, drawing records, and technical documentation organised and up to date.
Requirements
B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field).
[2–5] years of experience in product design or new product development.
Strong hands-on skills in SolidWorks (part modelling, assemblies, sheet metal, drawings).
Good working knowledge of AutoCAD for 2D drafting and layouts.
Understanding of GD&T;, tolerances, and engineering drawing standards.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Explicit communication and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Valuable to Have
Experience with SolidWorks Simulation (FEA) or other analysis tools.
Exposure to PDM/PLM systems.
Experience in [industry, e.g., consumer products, industrial equipment, automotive].
Familiarity with rapid prototyping or 3D printing.
