About us

HBF Direct is a venture studio. We build companies in-house and invest in others, backing founders with capital and execution rather than advice alone. Our portfolio spans media, AI, healthcare, skilled services and cross-border trade.

The role

We are appointing experienced people to the boards of selected portfolio companies. This is a governance seat, not an operating one. You are there to hold the founder to a standard, not to run anything.

What it involves
One online review each quarter with the founder or CEO, roughly two hours.
You receive the reporting format and the data pack in advance, so your time goes on reviewing the numbers rather than chasing them.
Availability between quarters if something genuinely material comes up.
Nothing operational. No day-to-day involvement, no escalations, no management responsibility.

Who this is for
You have built or run a company, raised institutional capital, or dealt with a regulator.
15+ years in your sector, with something specific our founders don't have.
You will say the uncomfortable thing to a founder half your age.
You can commit for five years, not five months.

Anyone who wants the title more than the work.
Anyone currently raising for their own venture.
Anyone expecting a salary or a monthly retainer.

Designation Appointments are made as Non-Executive Director or Advisory Board Member depending on the company's structure, confirmed at the time of appointment.
