Role Description

This full time, on-site Data Analyst (Journalism) role is based in Chennai and supports the newsroom and editorial teams with data-driven insights. The Data Analyst will collect, clean, and organize data from offcicial sources relevant to business, finance, and the economy, and translate findings into clear visualizations and narratives for stories and reports.

The ideal candidate will use their skills in data discovery, cleaning and analysis to write data focused news reports and visual representation of observed data. The candidate must be passionate about business journalism.

Daily tasks include performing statistical analyses and generating reports that identify trends, patterns, and newsworthy angles. The role involves close collaboration with editors and reporters to validate data, ensure methodological rigor,



and present complex information in ways that are accessible to readers.

Qualifications
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and draw meaningful conclusions.
Proficiency in data analytics and statistics, including experience with tools such as Excel (required), other data analytics tools like R or Python (preferred).
0 - 2 years' experience in Data/Business Journalism including data modeling and structuring datasets for reporting, visualization, and newsroom use.
Post Graduate degree in Commerce, Economics, MBA, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Additional skills
Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain methods and findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Familiarity with journalistic workflows, business and financial data, and data-driven storytelling is highly beneficial.
Ability to work in a quick-paced editorial workplace, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of accuracy and integrity.
