Job Summary
The NC Programmer is responsible for creating, verifying, maintaining, and optimizing CNC machining programs used to manufacture components for BW Papersystems equipment. Working remotely as part of the Phillips Machine Shop support team, this role collaborates closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, Production Supervisors, and Quality personnel to develop effective machining processes, improve productivity, and ensure consistent quality.
The NC Programmer converts engineering drawings and CAD models into production-ready CNC programs using CAM software, develops setup documentation, supports troubleshooting activities, and drives continuous improvement initiatives related to machining operations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Create CNC machining programs from engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
- Develop machining strategies, tooling selections, cutting parameters, and operation sequences.
- Generate and maintain setup sheets, tooling documentation, and operator instructions.
- Simulate and verify CNC programs prior to production release.
- Optimize existing programs to improve cycle time, quality, machine utilization, and tool life.
- Collaborate with machinists and manufacturing engineers to resolve machining issues.
- Support new product introductions by developing manufacturing processes and CNC programs.
- Maintain revision control and documentation standards for all machine programs.
- Analyze production feedback and implement program improvements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Participate in design-for-manufacturability reviews when required.
- Provide technical support during program prove-out and production startup activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, CNC Programming, or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of CNC programming experience.
- Experience with Mazatrol CAM software, or equivalent.
- Experience with Toshiba and Mazak mills and lathes, lathes w/live tooling
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T; requirements.
- Strong understanding of CNC milling and turning processes.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining best practices.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficient English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Amada or equivalent lasers and press brakes
- Experience with multi-axis machining centers.
- Experience programming large fabricated and machined components.
- Experience supporting North American manufacturing operations remotely.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing routings.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Knowledge of Fanuc, Mazak, Siemens, Haas, or Okuma controls.
