Role Overview

The Purchase & Vendor Development Engineer will be responsible for strategic sourcing, vendor identification, cost negotiation, purchase order management, and ensuring timely procurement of materials, components, and services.

The role requires strong technical understanding, supplier evaluation skills, and the ability to build a reliable vendor ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Purchase Operations

- Create and release Purchase Orders (POs) as per material requirements.

- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, boughtout items, consumables, and engineering components.

- Track order status, delivery schedules, and coordinate with stores, production, and vendors.

- Maintain accurate purchase records in SAP B1 / ERP.

2. Vendor Development & Sourcing

- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new vendors for mechanical, electrical, fabrication, machining, and packaging items.

- Conduct vendor capability audits, technical assessments, and quality checks.

- Develop alternate suppliers to reduce cost, lead time, and dependency.

- Maintain vendor database with performance metrics (quality, cost, delivery, service).

3. Costing & Negotiation





- Obtain competitive quotations and perform cost comparison / L1 analysis.

- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and longterm rate contracts.

- Work with engineering and production teams to optimize cost without compromising quality.

4. Material Planning & Coordination

- Coordinate with production planning for material requirement forecasts.

- Follow up with vendors for ontime delivery and resolve supply issues.

- Monitor inventory levels and avoid stockouts or excess stock.

5. Quality & Compliance

- Ensure purchased materials meet technical specifications and quality standards.

- Coordinate with QA/QC for inspection and rejection handling.

- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and documentation standards.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Solid knowledge of procurement processes, vendor development, and supply chain.

- Understanding of engineering drawings, BOM, fabrication, machining, and industrial components.

- Proficiency in Tally / SAP B1 / ERP systems.

- Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.

- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple purchase requirements.

- Analytical mindset with strong costevaluation skills.

Educational Qualification

- Diploma / BE in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering

- Additional certification in Supply Chain / Procurement is an advantage.
