Job Summary
The Manager - Materials is responsible for planning, procurement, inventory management, material availability, warehouse operations, and coordination with production to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing activities. The role focuses on optimizing inventory levels, improving material flow, reducing procurement lead times, and ensuring cost-effective supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Planning Procurement
- Plan and manage material requirements based on production schedules and business forecasts.
- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, bought-out parts, packaging materials, and consumables.
- Monitor material availability to support uninterrupted production.
- Coordinate with suppliers for delivery schedules and order fulfillment.
- Inventory Management
- Maintain optimum inventory levels and minimize excess or obsolete stock.
- Monitor inventory turnover and stock accuracy.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits and cycle counting.
- Implement inventory control practices to reduce carrying costs.
- Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain robust relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Identify and onboard new suppliers for cost optimization and risk mitigation.
- Track supplier performance related to quality, cost, and delivery.
- Resolve supplier-related issues and ensure continuous supply.
- Warehouse Stores Management
- Oversee receiving, storage, and issuance of materials.
- Ensure proper inventory documentation and stock reconciliation.
- Manage warehouse operations and material movement.
- Ensure adherence to material handling and storage standards.
- Production Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Quality, and Procurement teams for material planning.
- Monitor production requirements and prioritize critical materials.
- Support new product development and project-related material sourcing.
- MIS Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly material management reports.
- Analyze inventory trends, shortages, and material consumption patterns.
- Monitor KPIs related to inventory, procurement, and supplier performance.
- Process Improvement
- Implement process improvements to enhance material availability and inventory efficiency.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through procurement optimization and inventory reduction.
- Support ERP/MRP system implementation and process automation.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or related discipline.
- MBA/PGDM in Operations or Supply Chain Management preferred.
Experience
- 8-15 years of experience in Materials, Inventory, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management.
- Experience in Manufacturing, Automotive, Engineering, or Industrial sectors preferred.
