This role is to support the relationship management and business development objectives of JBAP Japanese Coverage for corporate clients in Bengaluru and Karnataka. The Assistant Relationship Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day client engagement, supporting Senior Relationship Managers in maintaining and expanding client relationships, identifying business opportunities, coordinating proposals for banking solutions, and ensuring timely follow-up on client requirements. The role contributes significantly to achievement of business targets by strengthening client coverage, improving responsiveness, and supporting disciplined execution of relationship plans.

The role works closely with internal stakeholders including credit, product, operations, compliance, legal, treasury, and other support functions to ensure that client proposals, documentation, account maintenance, transaction execution, and risk-control requirements are handled efficiently and in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures. Externally, the role interfaces with existing and prospective corporate clients, principally Japanese and Japan-linked corporates, to understand their banking requirements, coordinate responses, and support delivery of suitable financial solutions.

Given the competitive corporate banking environment and the need for close coordination across front office and control functions, the position acts as an key link between clients, Senior Relationship Managers, and internal teams. The nature of the working relationships requires strong client orientation, commercial awareness, attention to detail, and sound understanding of the Bank’s risk, compliance, and operational framework.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage and support day-to-day relationship coverage for assigned Japanese and Japan-linked corporate clients to maintain strong client engagement and provide timely responses to banking requirements.

Identify, analyse and follow up on business opportunities across deposits, remittances, trade, treasury, lending and other banking products to support achievement of JBAP business targets.

Prepare and coordinate client proposals, credit-related information, call reports, internal approvals and documentation with relevant stakeholders to enable efficient transaction execution.

Liaise with credit, product, operations, compliance, legal, treasury and risk teams to resolve client matters, progress transactions and ensure service delivery within internal requirements.

Monitor portfolio information, client developments, transaction status, documentation, renewals and follow-ups to support disciplined relationship planning and portfolio maintenance.

Ensure adherence to the Bank’s policies, procedures, risk, compliance, AML/KYC and control requirements in all client coverage, transaction support and documentation activities.

Secondary Responsibilities

Prepare internal MIS, client meeting notes, pipeline updates and other business reports as required by the team.

Assist in organising client meetings, visit plans, information requests and internal coordination for relationship reviews.

Support ad hoc projects, data collation and sector/client analysis relevant to Japanese Coverage business priorities.

Perform any other duties assigned by the reporting manager in line with the role’s objectives and the Bank’s policies.
