We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the group's internal applications and data systems, and to maintain our existing web presence. The role carries end-to-end ownership across backend services, web applications, and cloud infrastructure, and reports directly to the Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain internal web applications and supporting backend services.
- Build and operate data processing pipelines, including document-processing and AI-assisted workflows.
- Maintain, update, and extend the group's existing WordPress-based websites, including custom PHP functionality and hosting administration.
- Manage cloud infrastructure, storage, deployment, and system reliability.
- Implement appropriate controls for the handling and security of personal and commercially sensitive data.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for all systems developed.
- Work directly with commercial, HR, and operations teams to translate business requirements into working systems.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum two to three years' experience developing production software in Python and PHP.
- Demonstrated ability to build and deploy web applications independently, front-end through back-end, including HTML and CSS.
- Working knowledge of PHP and MySQL, sufficient to maintain and modify an existing WordPress installation.
- Practical experience with a major cloud platform (Microsoft Azure preferred).
- Sound knowledge of relational databases and data modelling.
- Experience integrating large language model APIs into production systems.
- Solid written English and the ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience migrating websites and file storage from shared hosting to cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with document processing and structured data extraction.
- Familiarity with data protection and access control practices.
- Prior exposure to the oil & gas, EPC, engineering, or recruitment sectors.
