Job Purpose
The Floor Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the supermarket sales floor, ensuring excellent customer service, effective staff deployment, proper product availability and display, and smooth store operations to achieve sales target.
The role requires strong leadership, customer-handling, merchandising, inventory-control and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Floor Operations
- Manage daily sales-floor operations and ensure smooth functioning of all departments.
- Ensure the store is ready for business before opening and properly managed until closing.
- Monitor customer flow and ensure a clean, organized and pleasant shopping environment.
- Conduct regular floor walks and identify operational issues.
- Coordinate with back-store, warehouse, billing and other departments for smooth operations.
2. Team Management
- Supervise and guide sales staff, department staff, promoters and support employees.
- Allocate staff to departments based on business requirements and customer traffic.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, grooming and discipline.
- Conduct daily briefings and communicate targets, promotions and operational instructions.
- Coach employees on customer service, product knowledge and selling techniques.
- Monitor individual and team performance and provide regular feedback.
3. Sales & Target Achievement
- Drive daily, weekly and monthly sales targets.
- Monitor department-wise sales performance and identify gaps.
- Encourage upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
- Ensure promotional activities and offers are properly communicated to customers.
- Monitor fast-moving and slow-moving products and take corrective action with the relevant teams.
4. Stock & Inventory Management
- Ensure shelves are adequately stocked and products are replenished on time.
- Monitor stock availability and coordinate with inventory/warehouse teams.
- Ensure proper FIFO/FEFO practices, particularly for grocery, dairy, fresh and perishable products.
- Identify damaged, expired, near-expiry and slow-moving products.
- Support stock counts, audits and inventory reconciliation.
- Monitor stock discrepancies and assist in shrinkage/loss-prevention control.
5. Merchandising & Display
- Ensure products are displayed according to company merchandising standards.
- Maintain correct pricing, labels, shelf tags and promotional displays.
- Ensure planograms and promotional displays are implemented correctly where applicable.
- Maintain attractive, clean and well-organized shelves and aisles.
6. Customer Service
- Ensure customers receive prompt and qualified service.
- Handle customer queries, complaints and escalations effectively.
- Resolve routine customer issues and escalate major issues to the Store Manager.
- Collect customer feedback and identify opportunities to improve the shopping experience.
7. Billing & Cash Operations
- Monitor billing-counter operations during peak hours.
- Ensure adequate cashier deployment.
- Coordinate with the cashier/team to minimize billing queues.
- Support accurate billing and cash-handling procedures.
- Report billing or POS-related issues promptly.
8. Hygiene, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the sales floor.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures and grooming standards.
- Monitor food-safety requirements in applicable departments.
- Report safety hazards, equipment issues and other operational risks immediately.
9. Reporting & Administration
- Prepare or provide daily operational updates to the Store Manager.
- Monitor sales, stock availability, customer complaints, staff attendance and other relevant KPIs.
- Maintain records related to floor operations.
- Support internal audits, stock audits and management inspections.

Qualifications
- Graduate in any discipline preferred.
- Diploma/12th standard may be considered based on experience.
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in supermarket, hypermarket, grocery retail or general retail operations.
- Previous experience as Floor Manager, Department Supervisor, Senior Sales Executive, Store Supervisor or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience managing a team in a high-footfall retail environment is an advantage
