About IndianBrand Technology
IndianBrand Technology is a Hyderabad-based technology company building India's complete digital sovereignty stack INDDN (India's own search engine at inddn.in), IndianBrand Browser, IndianBrand OS, and now INK — India's first programming language.
INK is a systems programming language with the speed of C, the simplicity of Python, and the safety of Rust. Every INK file ends in .in — India in every file, in every computer, in every country in the world. This is genuinely historic work — no Indian has ever built a programming language before.
JOB TITLE: Language Engineer — INK
Location : 100% Work From Home — anywhere in India
Employment Type : Part Time / Freelance / Full Time — your choice
Working Hours : Fully flexible — async communication
Experience : 5 to 8 years
Salary : 50,000 – 1,00,000/month based on experience
Joining : Immediate
SPECIAL NOTE
This role is open to everyone — including homemakers, women returning to tech after a career break, researchers, and academics. If you have built a compiler, interpreter, or programming language — in any form, at any scale — we want to talk to you. Career gaps are never a barrier here.
WHAT IS INK
INK is India's first programming language. It is designed to:
- Write the IndianBrand OS kernel — like C
- Write web servers and AI models — like Python
- Be protected by design — no null crashes, no buffer overflows
- Compile to native machine code via LLVM — ARM64 + x86-64
- Use .in as the file extension — India in every file worldwide

ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be the founding engineer of the INK programming language. You will design and build the compiler from the ground up — lexer, parser, type system, semantic analyser, LLVM code generation, standard library, and build tools. This is a rare opportunity that very few engineers in India — or the world — have ever had.
You will work directly with the founder. Your decisions will shape the language that millions of Indian developers will use for decades.
WHAT YOU WILL BUILD
Phase 1 (Months 1–3)
- Lexer — tokenises INK source code character by character
- Parser — builds Abstract Syntax Tree from tokens
- Basic evaluator — variables, functions, if/else, loops
- Hello World: ink run hello.in prints Jai Hind!
Phase 2 (Months 3–6)
- Type system — int, float, text, bool, list, map
- Type inference — let x = 5 without writing int
- Custom types — type Person { name: text,
age: int }
- Error handling — or keyword, Result types, Optional ?
- Collections — list, map, set with built-in operations
Phase 3 (Months 6–9)
- LLVM backend — compiles INK to native x86-64 machine code
- ARM64 target — compiles for smartphone chips
- Basic standard library — io, file, text, math modules
- ink build produces a real executable binary
Phase 4 (Months 9–12)
- System mode — @system annotation for OS/kernel development
- Raw pointer support — ptr[u8](0xB8000) for VGA buffer
- Manual memory control in system mode
- Write IndianBrand OS kernel in INK — milestone!
Phase 5 (Year 2)
- Web standard library — web.route, web.listen, json
- Database library — db.find, db.save, db.all
- Self-hosting — INK compiler written in INK itself
- inkpkg — INK package manager
- VS Code extension — syntax highlighting and autocomplete
MUST HAVE SKILLS — TECHNICAL
Compiler Theory (Essential)
Lexical analysis — tokenisation, regular expressions, finite automata
Parsing — recursive descent parser, LL(1) grammars, Abstract Syntax Tree
Semantic analysis — type checking, scope analysis, symbol tables
Intermediate representation — IR design, SSA form
Code generation — translating AST/IR to target instructions
Programming Languages (Essential)
C — expert level — the entire INK compiler is written in C first
C++ — strong — needed for LLVM integration
Assembly — x86-64 or ARM64 — understanding of generated code
At least one of: Rust, Go, Haskell, OCaml — functional/systems thinking
Tools & Infrastructure (Essential)
LLVM — understanding of LLVM IR and the LLVM toolchain
GCC/Clang — experience building and working with compilers
GDB — debugging compiled code at assembly level
Git — version control, branching, pull requests
Linux — comfortable on Ubuntu or similar
CMake or Make — build systems
Language Design (Strong Plus)
Type system design — static typing, inference, generics
Memory model design — ownership, lifetimes, automatic management
Standard library design — API design, module systems
Error handling design — Result types, exceptions, propagation
Syntax design — grammar definition, readability principles
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS
Prior programming language implementation — any language, any scale
Rust — memory safety concepts directly applicable to INK
ANTLR or Yacc/Bison — parser generators
OCaml or Haskell — functional languages used by compiler researchers
Language Server Protocol (LSP) — for VS Code extension
WebAssembly (WASM) — future INK compilation target
Operating system internals — INK is used to write IndianBrand OS
Academic background in computer science — PL theory, type theory
Prior open source contributions to compilers (GCC, LLVM, Rust)
MUST HAVE — PERSONAL QUALITIES
Curiosity — you read programming language papers for fun
Patience — building a language takes years, not weeks
Ownership — you treat INK like your own language
Communication — you explain complex things simply
Self-motivated — you work without being told what to do next
Honest — if something will take longer, you say so early
Passion — you genuinely care about building something historic for India

Subject: Language Engineer — INK — [Your Name]
Please include:
1. GitHub link or any compiler/interpreter you have built — even a toy language counts
2. Answer these 3 questions:
a) What is the difference between a lexer and a parser?
b) What is an Abstract Syntax Tree? Draw one for: let x = 5 + 3
c) What is LLVM and why do programming languages use it?
3. Your preferred commitment — part time hours per day OR full time
4. Any career break details — we understand and welcome returning engineers
Note: Candidates without any compiler, interpreter, or language implementation experience will not be considered — even if they have 10 years of general software development. This role requires very specific skills.
