Laundry Operations Manager (Hospital) – Roles, Responsibilities, and NABH/JCI Alignment
A Laundry Operations Manager in a hospital setting oversees the end-to-end processing of patient linens, staff uniforms, surgical textiles, curtains, and related items. The role prioritizes infection prevention, timely supply, quality control, staff management, equipment reliability, and compliance with accreditation standards. Hospital experience is essential due to the high infection-control requirements.
Operational Oversight
- Manage daily laundry operations: collection/sorting of soiled linen, washing, drying, ironing/folding, packaging, and distribution to wards, OT, ICU, and other departments.
- Ensure proper segregation of soiled, infectious/contaminated (e.g., blood/body fluids, isolation), and non-infectious linen at source and in the laundry.
- Maintain adequate clean linen supply (PAR levels), track utilization, losses, damages, and replacements.
- Coordinate collection and delivery schedules to meet departmental needs without stockouts.
- Implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the full workflow.
Infection Prevention & Quality Control
- Enforce infection control protocols throughout handling, processing, transport, and storage to prevent cross-contamination.
- Oversee quality checks for cleanliness, stains, damage, and hygienic standards.
- Ensure unidirectional workflow (dirty → clean) with physical separation of areas.
- Conduct or oversee regular inspections,
microbiological testing where required, and validation of processes.
Staff Management
- Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate laundry staff.
- Provide training on infection control, PPE use, safe handling of contaminated linen, equipment operation, and hygiene.
- Foster teamwork, monitor performance, and handle recruitment/onboarding as needed.
- Ensure staff follow PPE protocols, hand hygiene, and occupational health requirements (e.g., vaccinations).
Equipment, Inventory & Maintenance
- Oversee proper use, preventive maintenance, and repair of washers, dryers, ironers, and related equipment.
- Coordinate with engineering/maintenance for breakdowns and servicing schedules.
- Manage inventory of detergents, disinfectants, chemicals, bags, and supplies; control costs and ordering.
- Track equipment performance and ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations.
Budget, Compliance & Administration
- Prepare and manage departmental budget; control costs while meeting quality and volume targets.
- Maintain records/logs for production, inventory, temperature/chemical dosing, maintenance, incidents, and audits.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, occupational safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Act as liaison with infection control, nursing, CSSD, housekeeping, and external contractors (if outsourced).
- Support quality improvement, KPI tracking (e.g., turnaround time, linen loss rates, complaint resolution), and accreditation readiness.
- Handle customer service issues from user departments and continuous process improvement.
Typical Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in laundry management, housekeeping, facilities/hospitality management, or related field; preference for healthcare experience.
- 3–7+ years progressive experience in laundry operations, with strong preference (or requirement) for hospital/healthcare laundry.
- Knowledge of infection control, thermal/chemical disinfection, and healthcare textile standards.
- Leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes enviro
Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
