Job Summary
We are looking for a Junior Design Engineer with 2-3 years of experience in mechanical product design and development. The candidate should have hands-on experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS/Abaqus, 3D modelling, concept development and preparation of detailed 2D manufacturing drawings. The role will involve supporting recent product development, design modifications, FEA coordination, vendor technical support and customer design updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical design concepts based on product requirements and engineering specifications.
- Perform 3D modelling and assembly design using SolidWorks.
- Prepare detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks/AutoCAD.
- Define appropriate dimensions, tolerances, fits, GD&T; and surface finish requirements for manufacturing.
- Develop design concepts considering functionality, manufacturability, assembly and cost.
- Carry out design revisions and engineering changes based on production requirements, test results, customer feedback and design improvements.
- Maintain proper revision control of drawings, models and other design documentation.
- Coordinate with the FEA team / analysts for structural, thermal or other applicable analysis using ANSYS/Abaqus.
- Understand FEA results and coordinate with the concerned team for design modifications wherever required.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality,
Purchase and other departments to resolve design and manufacturing-related issues.
- Provide technical support to vendors regarding drawings, specifications, tolerances and manufacturing requirements.
- Review vendor queries and provide necessary design clarifications.
- Incorporate customer design updates, drawing changes and engineering requirements into existing/new designs.
- Support prototype development, testing and design validation activities.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of products and processes.
- Prepare and maintain design-related documentation, drawings, BOMs and revision records.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable customer specifications and company quality requirements.
Software Skills
Mandatory / Required:
- SolidWorks - 3D modelling, assemblies, sheet metal/basic design applications as applicable, drawing creation.
- AutoCAD - 2D drafting and manufacturing drawings.
- ANSYS / Abaqus - Basic to intermediate knowledge and experience in coordinating/understanding FEA activities.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Design Engineering principles.
- Good knowledge of 3D modelling and 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Understanding of GD&T;, tolerances, fits and surface finish.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, turning,
milling, grinding, fabrication and sheet-metal processes will be an advantage.
- Understanding of materials and their basic mechanical properties.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) will be an added advantage.
- Ability to interpret customer drawings and technical specifications.
- Basic understanding of engineering calculations and design validation.
Candidate Profile
- Qualification: B.E./B.Tech - Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 2-3 years in Mechanical Design / Product Design / Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of ANSYS/Abaqus and FEA coordination.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in drawings, tolerances and design revisions.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work closely with customers, vendors, Production, Quality and Engineering teams.
