Job Purpose

The Special Educator will provide specialized academic, developmental, behavioural, and learning support to students with diverse learning needs. The role involves identifying students requiring additional support, developing individualized intervention plans, collaborating with teachers and parents, and ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Assessment & Identification

- Identify students who may require special educational support through classroom observations, assessments, and discussions with teachers and parents.
- Understand students' learning profiles, strengths, challenges, and individual needs.
- Maintain appropriate student assessment and intervention records.
- Coordinate with external professionals, where required, for assessments and recommendations.

2. Individualized Education & Intervention

- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Support Plans based on the student's needs.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group intervention sessions.
- Design appropriate learning strategies, activities, worksheets, and teaching aids.
- Adapt curriculum content and teaching methodologies to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Monitor student progress and modify interventions as required.

3. Classroom Support

- Work closely with class teachers and subject teachers to facilitate inclusive classroom practices.
- Suggest appropriate accommodations, modifications, and differentiated teaching strategies.
- Support teachers in managing students with learning, behavioural, developmental, or other educational needs.
- Assist in creating an accessible and inclusive learning environment.

4. Parent Collaboration





- Communicate regularly with parents regarding the student's progress, challenges, and areas requiring support.
- Participate in parent meetings and provide appropriate guidance regarding learning support strategies.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while discussing student-related information.

5. Teacher Collaboration

- Work closely with teachers, coordinators, counsellors, and school leadership.
- Conduct awareness sessions or provide guidance to teachers on inclusive education and classroom strategies.
- Share practical intervention strategies that can be implemented within the classroom.

6. Student Development & Behavioural Support

- Support students in developing academic, social, emotional, communication, and functional skills, as appropriate.
- Implement positive and supportive behavioural strategies.
- Encourage students' independence, confidence, participation, and self-advocacy.
- Help students develop appropriate study habits and learning skills.

7. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate records of assessments, IEPs, intervention plans, progress reports, and parent interactions.
- Prepare periodic student progress reports for review by the school leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student and family information.
- Ensure documentation is updated and readily available for authorized review.

8. Multidisciplinary Coordination

- Coordinate, where required, with School Counsellors,



Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Behaviour Therapists, and other specialists.
- Incorporate relevant professional recommendations into the student's educational support plan.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings concerning student development.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education / Special Needs Education.
- B.Ed. Special Education or equivalent qualification preferred/required as applicable.
- Valid RCI registration is preferred/required where applicable to the role.
- Additional qualifications or training in areas such as Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Behaviour Management, or Inclusive Education will be an advantage.

Experience

- 2–5 years of relevant experience as a Special Educator in a school workplace preferred.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
- Experience in developing and implementing IEPs and individual intervention plans.
- Experience working collaboratively with teachers and parents.
