Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Set up and operate CNC and conventional Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines.
- Perform machining operations such as:
- Facing
- Turning
- Boring
- Grooving
- Drilling
- Threading
- Load and unload workpieces using appropriate lifting equipment and fixtures.
- Monitor machining parameters and make necessary offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy.
Production Activities
- Manufacture aerospace components according to engineering drawings and process sheets.
- Achieve production targets while maintaining quality requirements.
- Conduct in-process inspections during machining operations.
- Ensure proper utilization of cutting tools, inserts, and measuring instruments.
Quality Control
- Read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform dimensional inspections using
- Vernier calipers
- Micrometers
- Bore gauges
- Height gauges
- Dial indicators
- Verify compliance with GD&T; requirements where applicable.
- Maintain quality records and inspection reports.
Machine Maintenance
- Carry out routine machine checks and preventive maintenance.
- Monitor coolant levels, lubrication systems, and machine condition.
- Report machine abnormalities and breakdowns promptly.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow aerospace manufacturing standards and company procedures.
- Adhere to safety regulations and PPE requirements.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained within the machining area.
- Comply with AS9100 quality requirements and customer specifications.
Continuous Improvement
- Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
- Suggest process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce machining costs.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Diploma/ITI in Machinist, Turner, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical qualification.
Experience
- 2 to 8 years of experience operating VTL machines.
- Aerospace, precision engineering, defence, heavy engineering, or turbine component machining experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in operating CNC/Conventional VTL machines.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and process documents.
- Knowledge of machining aerospace materials such as:
- Aluminium alloys
- Stainless steels
- Titanium alloys
- Nickel-based super alloys (Inconel)
- Understanding of cutting tools, inserts, feeds, and speeds.
- Familiarity with GD&T; and precision measurement techniques.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or Mazatrol CNC controls.
- Knowledge of aerospace component manufacturing processes.
- Crane and rigging operation awareness.
- Basic CNC programme editing capability.
