About the role:
Zeltis communicates the Government of West Bengal's schemes, initiatives, events, and priority messages to the people of the State through accessible, culturally resonant content. Increasingly, that communication reaches citizens as video on social platforms, at public events, and through broadcast and digital news. We are looking for a Video Editor who can shape raw footage into content that is fast, current, and format-appropriate, while holding to the accuracy and restraint that government communication demands.
This is not commercial content production; it is public dissemination of governance and policy. Every cut carries the responsibility of factual accuracy, tonal appropriateness, and cultural sensitivity. The role also involves handling unreleased footage, pre-announcement material, and high-visibility campaigns, which makes discretion and secure file handling non-negotiable.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of minimum professional video editing experience.
- Candidates from newsrooms, production houses, digital content studios, advertising agencies with government or public-sector accounts, or in-house campaign teams will be strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Edit and assemble raw footage into polished short-form and long-form videos for social, digital, broadcast, and event use.
- Apply motion graphics, colour grading, sound design, and advanced transitions appropriate to the platform and the subject.
- Translate departmental briefs, event footage, and campaign notes into video formats suited for public dissemination.
- Ensure accuracy of official nomenclature, scheme names, figures, logos, and on-screen text in every cut.
- Stay current with editing trends, platform specifications,
and emerging formats, and apply them where they genuinely strengthen the message.
- Work closely with creative, copy, marketing, and production teams to meet tight turnarounds.
- Deliver rapid-response edits during announcements, launches, and time-sensitive events.
- Act as the final quality check on export, ensuring no factual, typographical, or technical errors reach publication.
- Maintain versioning discipline and organised project files so any edit can be revisited or revised at short notice.
- Uphold strict confidentiality on unreleased footage, internal material, and sensitive assignments.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
- Software proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects; working familiarity with DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, or equivalent tools.
- Storytelling and pacing: Solid instinct for structure, rhythm, and where a cut lands — able to hold attention without resorting to gimmick.
- Currency with formats: Up-to-date knowledge of trending editing techniques, aspect ratios, and social platform specifications, with judgement about which trends suit government communication and which do not.
- Understanding of governance sensitivity:
Appreciates that government communication is distinct from commercial branding; respects factual discipline and political/administrative sensitivities.
- Detail orientation: Ability to catch errors in supers, scheme names, figures, and spellings, and to ensure flawless final output.
- Language awareness: Ability to work with bilingual content (Bengali and English) in subtitles, supers, and voice-over syncing; Hindi proficiency desirable.
- Confidentiality and secure handling: Proven ability to work on confidential, high-impact assignments; comfortable signing NDAs and following secure file-handling protocols.
- Proactive ideation: Brings edit concepts unprompted, proposes treatments, and anticipates content needs.
- Language proficiency: Proficiency in Bengali is essential — the ability to read, comprehend, and work confidently with Bengali copy across subtitles, supers, and voice-over syncing, and to catch errors in Bengali on-screen text before export. Working proficiency in English is required; Hindi is desirable.
- Commitment and availability: This is a six-day-a-week, onsite role. Candidates must be comfortable with a six-day working week and willing to work beyond designated hours, including evenings, late nights, and public holidays, during announcements, launches, and time-sensitive events.
Good to Have:
- Experience with motion graphics templates, VFX basics, and multi-camera edits.
- Portfolio showing campaign, corporate, branded, or public-sector content.
- Working knowledge of audio mixing and colour correction workflows.
- Familiarity with broadcast delivery specifications and compression standards.
- Experience adapting a single edit across multiple platforms and durations.
