Clinical Care
- Examine animals and assess their health condition.
- Diagnose illnesses, injuries, infections, skin conditions, and other medical problems.
- Prescribe appropriate medicines and treatment plans.
- Provide emergency and first-aid treatment.
- Manage inpatient cases and monitor recovery.
- Perform routine procedures such as wound cleaning, suturing, dressing, and minor procedures within the veterinarians scope.
- Recommend laboratory tests, X-rays, ultrasound, or other investigations when clinically required.
- Interpret investigation results and modify treatment accordingly.
- Refer complicated or specialist cases when necessary.
Preventive & Pet Wellness
- Administer vaccinations according to appropriate schedules.
- Provide deworming and parasite-control advice.
- Guide pet owners regarding nutrition, hygiene, exercise, and preventive healthcare.
- Conduct routine health examinations and wellness checks.
- Educate owners about zoonotic diseases and responsible pet care.
Surgery & Anaesthesia
- Evaluate patients before surgery and assess surgical risks.
- Obtain appropriate informed consent from the pet owner.
- Perform surgeries for which the veterinarian is appropriately trained and authorized.
- Ensure proper anaesthesia monitoring and pain management.
- Provide postoperative treatment and follow-up instructions.
- Maintain appropriate surgical and sterilization protocols.
Emergency Responsibilities
- Attend emergency cases promptly.
- Stabilize critically ill or injured animals.
- Manage trauma, bleeding, poisoning, seizures, breathing difficulty, bite injuries, and other emergencies within available capabilities.
- Clearly communicate prognosis, treatment options, referral requirements, and costs to owners.
Medical Records & Communication
- Maintain accurate OP, IP, vaccination, treatment, surgical, and discharge records.
- Document diagnosis, medicines, dosages, investigations, procedures, and follow-up advice.
- Explain the animal’s condition and treatment plan clearly to the owner.
- Obtain consent for surgery, anaesthesia, hospitalization, and other significant procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and qualified communication.
Hospital Responsibilities
- Coordinate with veterinary assistants, nurses, groomers, reception, pharmacy, and management.
- Ensure medicines and veterinary supplies are used responsibly.
- Follow infection-control, sterilization, biomedical-waste, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Report equipment problems, medicine shortages, adverse events, and significant clinical incidents.
- Participate in clinical meetings, training, and quality-improvement activities.
