Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior BI Developer with strong hands-on expertise in Power BI and Databricks to design, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade business intelligence solutions. The candidate will be responsible for developing scalable Power BI semantic models, complex DAX solutions, secure reporting frameworks, and high-performance dashboards for multiple business audiences.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience working with Power BI on Databricks, including Databricks SQL Warehouse connectivity and making appropriate architectural decisions between DirectQuery and Import modes. The role requires the ability to design reporting solutions that support diverse audiences ranging from operational users to senior executives.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Development & Reporting

- - Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions.
- Develop interactive reports and visualizations tailored to different business and stakeholder requirements.
- Translate business requirements into effective BI solutions and intuitive data visualizations.
- Implement reusable reporting components and standards to ensure consistency across Power BI solutions.
- Work with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.

Semantic Modelling

- - Design and develop robust Power BI semantic models to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Develop appropriate relationships, hierarchies, calculated columns, and measures within semantic models.
- Implement dimensional modelling principles and optimize models for usability and performance.
- Design models that can support multiple reports and diverse business audiences.
- Ensure semantic models provide consistent definitions and trusted business metrics across reporting solutions.

DAX Development

- - Develop complex DAX measures and calculations for business reporting and analytical requirements.
- Optimize DAX expressions and data models to improve report performance.
- Develop time-intelligence calculations, KPIs, aggregations, and other advanced analytical measures.
- Troubleshoot and optimize inefficient DAX calculations and model structures.

Power BI Security

- - Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) to ensure users have appropriate access to business data.
- Design and maintain role-based access models across Power BI datasets and reports.
- Work with security and business stakeholders to define appropriate data-access requirements.




- Troubleshoot security and data-access issues within Power BI environments.

Power BI & Databricks Integration

- - Develop Power BI solutions using Databricks SQL Warehouse as a data source.
- Configure and optimize connectivity between Power BI and Databricks.
- Evaluate and implement appropriate connectivity approaches based on reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the trade-offs between DirectQuery and Import modes, including performance, data freshness, scalability, and user experience.
- Work closely with Data Engineers to ensure Databricks data structures are optimized for downstream BI consumption.
- Identify opportunities to improve query performance and reporting efficiency across the Power BI and Databricks architecture.

Performance Optimization

- - Monitor and optimize Power BI report, semantic model, DAX, and query performance.
- Identify performance bottlenecks across the BI solution and implement appropriate remediation.
- Optimize data models, DAX expressions, queries, visualizations, and connectivity configurations.
- Use Power BI performance-analysis capabilities to diagnose and resolve performance issues.
- Ensure reports remain responsive and scalable as data volumes and user populations increase.

Reporting Architecture

- - Design reporting architectures that support multiple audiences, including operational users, management, senior leadership, and executives.
- Establish standards for report development, semantic modelling, security, performance, and deployment.
- Develop scalable BI solutions that can accommodate multiple business units, functions, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with Data Architects and Data Engineers to define appropriate data structures for BI consumption.
- Contribute to enterprise BI architecture, standards, and best practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration

- - Work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, data engineers, architects, and leadership teams.
- Gather and clarify reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Present dashboards and analytical insights to business stakeholders.




- Support troubleshooting and resolution of reporting and data-related issues. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other BI developers.

Required Skills & Experience

- - Strong hands-on experience as a Power BI Developer / Senior BI Developer in enterprise production environments.
- Strong expertise in Power BI semantic modelling.
- Advanced proficiency in DAX, including complex measures, calculations, and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) in Power BI.
- Strong experience with Power BI performance tuning and optimization.
- Hands-on experience using Power BI with Databricks.
- Strong understanding of Databricks SQL Warehouse connectivity with Power BI.
- Strong understanding of DirectQuery vs. Import architecture and the ability to make appropriate implementation decisions based on performance, data volume, latency, and reporting requirements.
- Experience designing reporting architectures supporting multiple audiences and business functions.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modelling and analytical data structures.
- Experience developing enterprise dashboards, reports, KPIs, and analytical solutions.
- Solid SQL skills for querying and validating underlying data.
- Experience troubleshooting data, model, DAX, connectivity, and report-performance issues.
- Strong understanding of Power BI workspace, dataset/semantic model, report, and data-source concepts.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.

Strongly Preferred Skills

- - Experience developing executive and board-level reporting.
- Experience designing dashboards and reports for C-level and senior leadership audiences.
- Hands-on experience with Power BI Deployment Pipelines.
- Experience implementing enterprise Power BI release and deployment processes.
- Experience using Unity Catalog as a governed data source for the Power BI semantic layer.
- Experience with large-scale multi-division or multi-business-unit Power BI deployments.
- Experience establishing enterprise BI governance and development standards.
- Experience with Power BI administration and workspace governance.
- Experience with Azure data services and the broader Azure data ecosystem.
- Experience working with large datasets and high-concurrency Power BI environments.
- Experience implementing BI solutions integrated with enterprise data lakes/lakehouses.
