About Palyt
Palyt is a profit optimization platform for restaurants. It shows restaurants where their money goes, from what each dish costs to make to which menu items earn the most, and helps them act on it. Palyt is built by AI researchers from Harvard IACS, hospitality professionals from The Oberoi Group, and engineers with experience in production AI at early-stage startups.
The company is starting with restaurants in India and is built to support restaurant operators worldwide who work with tight margins.

About the Role The Software Developer Intern will help build and improve Palyt's web applications, backend services and AI-powered features. The intern will help design, build, test and debug features, working closely with Palyt's engineering team on APIs, data pipelines and integrations. The role offers hands-on experience with production systems and AI-powered features, with a strong focus on learning and collaboration.
We're looking for product-minded engineers: people who think through how a feature will be used, where it could break, and how to test it before building.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve features across Palyt's web applications and backend
- Develop and maintain APIs that power the product
- Fix bugs and improve the reliability of existing features
- Write automated tests to keep the product stable
- Help build features that use AI and large language models
Requirements
- Strong analytical thinking, including the ability to anticipate edge cases and consider how a feature could fail
- Product thinking,
with an understanding of how customers will actually use a feature
- A solid foundation in programming, preferably in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (solid experience in another language, such as Java or C , is also welcome)
- A basic understanding of web development, including APIs and databases
- At least one completed project (student or personal projects are welcome)
- Familiarity with Git
- Attention to detail and clear communication, including asking questions when stuck
- The ability to take feedback and apply it through quick iterations
Nice to Have
- Experience with FastAPI, Vue or React
- Experience with PostgreSQL or SQL in general
- Familiarity with Docker
- Experience using AI coding assistants or working with LLM APIs
- An interest in how restaurants work
What the Intern Will Gain
