ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Robotics Simulation Engineer to join our robotics software team, building the simulation environments used to develop and validate next-generation autonomous mobile robot platforms for industrial mobility applications. In this role, you will model robots, sensors, and physical interactions in a physics-based 3D simulation environment, and keep that simulation in step with our robot software stack.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working close to both software and hardware — reproducing real-world robot behaviour in simulation, and giving the navigation, perception, and control teams a fast, reliable place to test before anything runs on a physical robot.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain robot simulations and representative industrial environments.
- Import and configure robot models from CAD and URDF, including meshes, joints, collision geometry, and physical properties.
- Configure simulated sensors such as LiDAR, RGB/depth cameras, and IMUs.
- Integrate simulated robots with our robot software stack for testing navigation, SLAM, perception, and control software.
- Develop Python scripts and tools to automate scene creation, simulation execution, and data collection.
- Create representative scenarios involving obstacles, different surfaces, facility layouts, and moving objects.
- Debug simulation issues related to robot motion, physics, sensors, and software integration.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to compare simulated behaviour with real robot performance.
- Optimize simulation performance and maintain reusable assets, configurations, and documentation.
- Support regression testing and reproduction of issues observed during physical robot trials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or master's in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–5 years of experience in robotics simulation or robotics software development.
- Hands-on experience with a physics-based 3D robotics simulation platform such as Isaac Sim, and proficiency in Python.
- Working knowledge of robotics middleware and robot software integration.
- Familiarity with URDF and OpenUSD for importing and configuring robot assets.
- Understanding of robot kinematics, coordinate transformations, rigid-body physics, collision modelling, and sensor simulation.
- Experience with Linux and Git, and solid debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with autonomous mobile robots and navigation systems.
- Familiarity with robot navigation stacks, SLAM, and perception pipelines.
- Experience with Blender, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, or similar modelling tools.
- Familiarity with synthetic data generation and domain randomization.
- Exposure to automated simulation testing, CI workflows, or multi-robot simulation.
- Experience with robot learning frameworks or reinforcement learning is a plus.
