Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SOTIF Engineer for one of our clients to support the safety development of advanced automotive systems, including ADAS and automated-driving functions. The role involves identifying and mitigating risks arising from functional insufficiencies, performance limitations, foreseeable misuse, and challenging operating scenarios in accordance with ISO 21448.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute SOTIF activities in accordance with ISO 21448.
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessment for ADAS and automated-driving functions.
- Identify triggering conditions, functional insufficiencies, performance limitations, and foreseeable misuse scenarios.
- Define safe operating boundaries, acceptance criteria, and SOTIF requirements.
- Develop and maintain SOTIF plans, analyses, arguments, work products, and safety cases.
- Conduct scenario-based analysis covering known-safe, known-unsafe, and potentially unknown conditions.
- Work with system, software, perception, simulation, testing, and functional-safety teams.
- Review system architecture, functional concepts, sensor limitations, and performance assumptions.
- Support verification and validation through simulation, HIL/SIL, vehicle testing, and field-data analysis.
- Define test scenarios and acceptance criteria for different environmental and traffic conditions.
- Participate in technical reviews and coordinate SOTIF activities with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure traceability between identified hazards, SOTIF requirements, test cases, results, and supporting evidence.
- Support the resolution of safety-related issues throughout the development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
- 6–9 years of experience in automotive systems, safety engineering, ADAS, or automated-driving development.
- Practical experience applying ISO 21448 within automotive-development projects.
- Valuable understanding of ISO 26262 and its relationship with SOTIF.
- Experience with hazard analysis, risk assessment, safety concepts, requirements engineering, and safety-case development.
- Knowledge of ADAS functions, perception systems, sensors, vehicle dynamics, and embedded systems.
- Experience with scenario-based testing, simulation, HIL/SIL, or vehicle-level validation.
- Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Jama, SystemWeaver, MATLAB/Simulink, Vector tools, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with camera, radar, lidar, ultrasonic, or sensor-fusion systems.
- Knowledge of ASPICE, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and relevant ADAS regulations.
- Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
- Familiarity with safety analysis methods such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, STPA, or similar techniques.
