Are you a scientific programmer or seismic/earthquake engineering professional who enjoys solving complex numerical problems and modernizing legacy code?
We’re looking for a Senior Hazard Software Engineer / Senior Scientific Programmer to help transform a legacy FORTRAN-based earthquake hazard engine into clean, modular, high-performance Python.
? What you’ll work on:
- Translate complex FORTRAN numerical routines into Python
- Build scientific computing solutions using Python, NumPy & SciPy
- Ensure numerical equivalence between legacy and modern implementations
- Work with seismologists and domain experts on probabilistic hazard models
- Optimize large-scale simulations, memory usage and performance
- Build regression tests and ensure numerical correctness
- Work with Git, CI/CD, code reviews and modern engineering practices
? We’re looking for:
- PhD in Earthquake Engineering, Seismology, Structural Engineering (seismic hazard) or a closely related field
- Strong Python + NumPy/SciPy skills
- Hands-on experience with FORTRAN code and numerical models
- Experience with probabilistic numerical modelling / simulations
- Strong understanding of testing, Git and software engineering practices
- Experience with PSHA, earthquake risk modelling or seismic hazard is a plus
