The position is the technical authority on firmware design and coding standards, and is expected to represent Microair credibly in technical discussions with customers, DERs and certification authorities.

Key Responsibilities1.

Firmware

Architecture &

• Design

- Own the architecture, design and implementation of embedded firmware for DO-178C DAL-A/B avionics systems (STM32/Cortex-M7, ESP32, RX72N), from concept through to certified release.

2.

Requirements &

• Traceability
- Author and review High- and Low-Level Requirements (HLR/LLR).
- Maintain bidirectional traceability from system requirements through code and test, ensuring certification evidence and delivery status remain current.

3. Team Leadership & • Mentoring
- Lead, mentor and review the work of a team of firmware engineers.
- Set coding and design standards.
- Conduct code reviews and build the team's capability in DO-178C-compliant development practices.

4. Coding & • Static Analysis

- Develop and review safety-critical embedded C to MISRA C:2012.
- Use PC-Lint Plus and equivalent static analysis tools to maintain DAL-A coding standards.

5.

Certification &

• Audit Liaison
- Support SOI audits.
- Represent Microair in technical discussions with customers, DERs and certification authorities regarding firmware design, verification evidence and open findings.

6. Verification & • Test
- Own requirements-based test development and execution.
- Conduct MC/DC and structural coverage analysis.
- Drive closure of verification findings against DO-178C DAL-A objectives.

7. Configuration & • Process Compliance
- Work within the project's SCMP and SQAP.
- Maintain firmware baselines, problem reports and lifecycle data under control and audit-ready throughout the program.

8. Defect & • Risk Management
- Triage and resolve firmware defects and anomalies.
- Assess certification and schedule impact.
- Drive root-cause fixes rather than workarounds.

9.

Continuous

Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve firmware development tooling, review efficiency and team capability.
- Pursue improvements with the same discipline applied to program delivery.

Skills & • ExperienceEducation
- Bachelor's degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Electronics, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline — essential.

- Formal training or certification in DO-178C software lifecycle processes — desirable.
- A substantial certified-firmware delivery track record is accepted in lieu of formal qualifications.

Experience
- 8–10 years in embedded firmware development, including at least 2 years leading or mentoring a team of engineers — essential.
- Demonstrated experience across the DO-178C DAL-A software lifecycle, including PSAC, SDP, SVP, SCMP and SQAP artifacts — essential.
- Experience authoring and reviewing HLR/LLR and supporting SOI audits with certification authorities or DERs — essential.
- Experience delivering requirements-based verification, MC/DC and structural coverage analysis on certified programs — essential.
- Fluent qualified English and willingness to travel internationally to customer and Microair sites — essential.
- Avionics or aerospace background — essential. Equivalent experience in another regulated safety-critical domain such as defence electronics, automotive functional safety, medical devices or rail is accepted.

System Knowledge
- Embedded C development on STM32/Cortex-M7, ESP32 and RX72N platforms, following MISRA C:2012 and using PC-Lint Plus static analysis — essential.
- Avionics data bus standards — ARINC 429 BPRZ encoding, ARINC 664 Part 7 AFDX, CAN Aerospace Standards, MIL-STD-1553B Manchester II encoding, and 8.33 kHz radio channel spacing — desirable.
- Requirements, test and traceability tools such as DOORS, Polarion, VectorCAST or equivalent — desirable.
- Working awareness of ARP4754B, ARP4761A, DO-160 and DO-254 — valued.
